Mike, I'm afraid it's the first time that I see these nice labels. But I'm glad that someone make them. As you can see, we don't lack Catalan nationalism action people.
That's one of the reasons for our future success...

Another Catalunya Album Barcelona stamp, the one featuring Catalonia square, which is the contact point between what it used to be the walled city (up to 1854) and the "modern" (after 1854) one. It's also considered the center of Barcelona.
It hasn't changed that much since 1933.
The building in the center was "Columbus Hotel" the best in town (W. Churchill stayed there); during the 1936/39 war, it was occupied by the Catalan Communist Party; later, it was replaced by a bank building and, now is an Apple Computer Store. A sign of the times?

Only comment one thing. When Mr. Cerdŕ planned the new Barcelona, he thought the downtown n the Glories Catalan Square. The reality of the city, like many things, has developed differently than him initially expected. And as Cursus explains Catalonia Square was the center of the new city.

A 1922 design from Josep Obiols for the Catalan Teaching Association, remembered on the 1933 Album Catalunya, is being currently used to fight against the Spanish Government attempt to destroy the working Catalan School (yes, it happens on the 2012 "democratic" Europe!).

1922 and 1933 cinderellas and 2012 sticker:

Thus, giving us, another reason to fight for independence.

I would like to celebrate our 14,000 readings (thank you very much to our followers!) by showing one on my latest acquisitions: a tiny (21x27 mm) cinderella, issued around 1900 to advertise the weekly satirical and political magazine "L'Esquella de la Torratxa", published in Barcelona from 1872 to 1939 (quite a long time for our standards!).

Just to say that "Pi de Llobregat" was the name in 1936-1939 of the present Sant Joan Despí. Nearby Barcelona.

Wonderful !

Those 3 cinderellas of the boy going to school are just lovely. A superb design, as is that Miniature Sheet in your last but one post.

You're always a fan of Catalonia, Mike. We should nominate you for "Honorary Citizenship of Barcelona". Your comments are highly appreciated.

Well, the full colour image of the boy, isn't actually a cinderella, but a sticker made on-purpose last week, to promote the fight against a current project for a Spanish law that, wants to put aside Catalan Language learning in our schools.

As for the design, it belongs to the "Noucentisme" an artistic style predominant in Catalonia from 1914 to around 1930; although, in some aspects, it lasted well into the 1960 decade. As I said before, the small cinderella is, perhaps, my favourite one. It reminds me of my childhood, spent on a Barcelona "noucentista" school on the sixties.

It has also already said that the miniature sheet, shows Barcelona 1714 major Rafael Casanova, as depicted on a late XIX century Rossend Novas sculpture in our city.

The cinderellas of the "Volta Ciclista a Catalunya" (Catalonia Cycling Tour) are a sample of the Catalan state of the art on a given year. Here are the ones from years 1988 to 1991. The third cinderella, has the distinctive style of Xavier Mariscal, the father of the 1992 Olympics mascot, Cobi.

Authors:
68th ed. (1988) Montserrat Gudiol (Barcelona, 1933)
69th ed. (1989) Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, Mallorca, 1957)
70th ed. (1990) Xavier Mariscal (Valčncia, 1950)
71th ed. (1991) Ricard Giralt Miracle (Barcelona, 1911-1994)
