France Cancellations - Show And Tell

Hi Cjd,

I could not be sure 100% about the origin of the cancel on your first stamp, I can identify a "L" or "1".

Could be a registration mark, reference here : http://marcophilie.org/mqp-marque-e...iquette.html , but not sure.

Just a guess, but second is Guadeloupe (?)

This is one of my favourites (although don`t really collect France)-the colour of this stamp is magnificent.

Could not identify the CDS on first stamp, its a France one SC#98.
Second stamp is Sc#43 from "Guadeloupe" "Le Moule" here :



Second post is a very nice dotted star from Paris with number "1" post office.

Here are two `losange`, the first is `FN2`. The closest find leads to the `losanges des bureaux de quartier supplémentaires`, somewhere here:

second (Ceres) seems PCN (or maybe PGN...-and perhaps a missing O = Paris Gare de l`Ouest)?

It's in the classification "Losanges lettres bâtons des ambulants"

First one is cancelled "FN2" for Forbach to Nancy 2nd run & second stamp is "PCN" means Paris to Caen.

I am love, love, lovin' this information. I have so many french stamps to sort through and always find them so interesting and intriguing. Even my teenage daughter, who has no interest in collecting, saw a few French stamps today, and said, "wow mom, pretty stamps". Maybe a future collector? I know this is all going to be a new distraction to me, but if I have to be distracted, what a way to go! Thanks for all the pictures and info. Keep it coming!

First of all many thanks to AnthonyUK who has initiated this thread and given me the opportunity to show few French stamps of my classic collection .

Here is a dotted lozenge big numbers with the letter "F" in a circle, it's a Sc#58 cancelled at Douarnenez (lozenge 1335) :

Another Sc#58 cancelled with a lozenge small numbers "4050" which is scarce for this stamp (it must be big numbers on perf French stamps), so that's what we call in France "petits chiffres des gros chiffres" :

When you say scarce for different cancels are you referring to a catalogue or list? If so, what is the name of it please, for those of us who do not have it or know?

When a CDS is rare I mention it, for example in my last post the anchor cancel multiplies the CV of the stamp by 30.

This is indicated in some catalogues, I use the Dallay, it's not equivalent to the Scott Specialized but it's more detailed than Yvert & Tellier.

However, for more detailed lists you have them in the reference site (example list of dotted lozenge with small & big numbers):

For value of each there are many other books, like "Bleus de France" from "Henry Blot" Ceres editions (the one I use is written on 1964).
