France Louis Braille January 5, 2009 Louis Braille (1809 – 1852) was a French educator. He invented braille, a system of reading and writing for use by the blind or visually impaired. The stamp, printed with embossed dots, commemorates the 200th Anniversary of his birth.  |

Vatican Bicentenary of the Birth of Louis Braille November 4, 2009 Louis Braille (1809 - 1852) developed the system that we know today as braille, employing a 6-dot cell and based upon normal spelling. He also went on to lay the foundations of the braille representation of music. The stamps feature the name and a portrait of Louis Braille, the Vatican City State and the price written in the raised dots of the Braille system.  |
