A bit earlier:
Some of the local posts printed and used small advertising labels. Here are a few of them (descriptions on the pages):

A stamp-like advertising label from a Telegraph Company in Boston. Estimate of the date based upon the period of use of that particular datestamp:

While printed advertising covers are fairly common in the 1850ish time frame in the US, covers with applied advertising labels are MUCH less common. Here are a few:

The small seals, like the two political ones shown earlier have been used since the early 1840s in GB. Here are a couple of advertising ones from the late 1840s, early 1850s:

Before you go "enough already!!), let me end with a few cute little wafer seals:

Advertising Phonography (shorthand):

A cute one from 1843:

Two versions of the same design, one used very early from California:

And one last one for now with an extra little endorsement under the seal:

Happy New Year to all.

Sorry, I lied.
Last post for now (and only because someone brought up Book Trade Labels and I have a few of them):

And a similar looking one from a paper warehouse company:

My eyes are popping! Greedy to see more! Do you have any more booksellers on cover? I have two, but they are from around 1900.

Bravo!
I just love the way you present your material,
lovely stuff and great work.
10/10
I envy the way you can lift and represent the CDS
we have had tutorials here, but I have been lazy.

Ben:
Sorry, no more booksellers. Advertising labels, as opposed to advertising covers, are not very common. It's taken me years to accumulate the dozen or so that I have.

Rod:
Thank you

I have a few other things in the label/Cinderella category. Will post some pics when I have a chance.

Gorgeous! Lots of information there. Is it in a book? What's the year on it?

Benjclark, I already answered you on that questions on previous page, but you probably missed my reply. So, I will just quote myself now:

Quote:
It was once a blank book (journal), which some fellow used to wrote his observations, researches etc. There is no any date in the entire manuscript, so I used this label (with the informations on Charles Payne I found on-line), and put this book/manuscript into that period 1780-1881. It is the only clue I have.

Thank you, I did miss it. Is it pocket book sized? Maybe similar in size to the one you've posted from the 1860s?

No, this journal is about twice bigger than the 1860s one.

This is about 8 inches x 6,5 inches.

Label itself is pretty big... about 4 inches width.

Btw. I noticed on the first page of the manuscript an obituary, which seems to be very contemporary to the writings in the book... So, this book is probably from the year 1792... or even earlier, because the first owner maybe didn't start to use it immediately... or maybe it stayed in the bookstore for some time indeed.
