Life was just much simpler in the stampauctions.com, pre-ebay days of online stamp auctions. I remember the early 90s was pretty nice in those
regards. You would buy online and send off the money order or bank transfer. Just alot of collectors and dealers selling. Now that there are "biznizmen" and government entities involved (i.e. revenue services etc. In my opinion, this has taken alot of the fun and interest out of it all.

With stamps they will let our business buy the stamps from out of my collection

John, something I passionately wanted to hear for years.

Years of AP outlay being legitimately seen as buisnes expense, that will suit many collector-sellers in retirement.

Thank God I kept the AP sales receipts as proof of outlay.

They are accepting my word that the stamps are going to be hard to replace into my collection for half total sale price and at this price it will be, with good auction wins over many years.

If I was to go straight out and replace the stamps sold there would not be enough money from total sales to do it.

As truthful as I could work it out at the spur of the minute in an interview at centrelink.

Just because you view anything under $500 as "low dollar stuff" doesn't mean everyone else does.

Please show me where I said that.

The OP regurgitated a BidStart ploy to make everyone think ebay is trying to push out collectables. It has zero to do with collectables, it has to do with dollar value. My point was you can still sell stamps and coins, size has nothing to do with value. So to say " ebay has taken steps to turn away sellers of collectibles" or "However, for collectible sellers that's all about to change!" or "By May, almost every Top Rated Seller on ebay in the collectible categories will lose their Top Rated Seller Status, and many will instantly see a fee increase of 20%!" or "Obviously this new requirement doesn't make any sense for collectibles, but that's the point - to force out collectibles, and collectible buyers and sellers like you." is completely and utterly ridiculous. Quite frankly, it's borderline libelous.

The push (if any) is to force out low dollar items, regardless of what they are.

I never said under $500 was low dollar items, I said "You gonna ship a $500 stamp with no tracking?"... Would you? I wouldn't. My point was the sellers of under $5 or so items... Most think they're making money, when in reality they'd be better off working at McDonalds because they fail to factor in their time. If you make a $3 profit on an item but it takes 60 minutes to buy it, photograph it, list it, deal with questions on it, pack it, and ship it... whose making more money... you or the pimply faced guy flipping burgers at McDonalds? It's those types of sellers that ebay will be doing a favor.

I don't really want to get into the ebay good/ebay bad debate,(she said, doing it anyhow ), but surely if ebay wanted to remove stamps (or any other collectible) from their site, they would just do it? Bobby131313's point about it being more about low-value items makes sense to me. I also agree that ebay is turning more into a big brand retailer.

ebay does want to turn into Amazon and they have taken steps to do so with a multi-billion dollar merger with shipping warehouses of branded retailers last year.

There's a difference between selling low value items on ebay and working at McDonald's. I enjoy what I do on ebay and so do others. Not many people enjoy working at Mcdonald's.

ebay brings maximum worldwide buyers to sellers, do not lost this market!!

The making money is not easy as always, sometimes you do a lot but still no expected profit is not the fault of the market, try to find the new way to improve, but do not lost what you already have, as long as you do not give up, when the spring comes up, the flowers will be blooming for you.

I agree with ZhangCheng. There are so many ways to improve one's own business - just keep trying. Improvements can always be made - increase your own knowledge base, find good material, use better technology/techniques (to produce listings accurately and efficiently), provide better service and keep costs low.

ebay has become more annoying over the years, but on the upside - you dont have to worry about putting currency in a birthday card and mailing it across the world any longer.

Frankly the chances of me shopping for a new toaster oven on ebay are none to none. If ebay were smart they'd spin off the collectibles. Leave the ipads and appliances to Amazon. Shareholders want big cash flow I guess.

Bobby131313, Agreed, another accurate statement posted on SCF.
Simple logic; if one can drive to an Auction, walk about, and bid on lots then get themselves back home, they'd be capable of part or full time work/employment earning better money.

Trouble is FAR TOO MANY people, not necessary collectors, are middle manning Stamps trying to make a dollar, so ebay IS taking the correct action.

If we can educate people to accept that their turn will come later in life. Leave the selling to the retired life long collectors in the dusk of life which gives their accumulated stock a good chance of distribution by selling.
