All we need to do is find an old USPS cancelling machine that was thrown out and we have a revenue generator! We set our own date and can crank up the value of all sorts of used stamps. |

Quote: My only advice would be to ensure that the sheet you acquire is in its original, unsealed packaging. (original, sealed) or (original, unopened). I recently got one in unopened USPS packaging for $98 with free shipping. It seems the market price for this item is softening. |

FWIW, the packaging material is not archival. It may not be a bad idea to remove the error sheet from that windowed blue cardboard sleeve now. Maybe yours will be one of the few remaining in a couple hundred years :-) |

Agreed. The sheet has been in that packaging for 20 years, so I agree it's time to remove and mount it. I'll keep the packaging, neatly sliced open, as a sort of faux certificate. |

I always felt that all the hype about saving the blue envelope was absurd. For some reason, collectors pay a premium for the Scott 2870 sheet still in the blue envelope. Why not premiums on other issues that come in sealed envelopes? I have the newly issued panes of 10 high value stamps all shipped in sealed envelopes. No premium for these ever for the wrapper. The stamps are what we collect, the wrappers should go in the trash. |

I received a sheet via the lottery without the blue envelope. A letter was included (which I still have) stating that I would receive the envelope shortly... still waiting 20 years later |

If you are buying the sheet on the basis of a written description in a price list and not an image of the sheet, then a seller's statement that the sheet is in the blue envelope would increase confidence that the correct sheet is to be sold, and not the non-recalled, fixed sheet. Aside from that minor benefit, I agree. I don't think I paid a premium for the blue envelope in my case, but I'm sure less informed buyers have. |

I know someone who also received a letter about the lack of an envelope. She did receive an envelope for her sheet some time later but the color was green, |

I got the whole error sheet for $75 in ebay and the other right one at less than 10 bucks... to keep them alongside for comparison. It doesn't seem to command the premium it had once upon a time :) Oh.. forgot to say it came with the original USPS mailing and info note |

Not sure why my post was removed. I was trying to get your take on what two sheets in their original Blue envelopes, never taken out, would be worth. |

The recalled Legends sheets in original blue folders are readily available on ebay in the $60-$75 range. I remember when the going rate was >$150. |

You're not sure why, yet the sentence that violated the rules is left out of your second post. You agreed to the rules when you registered, there's also a link to them in the warning in your post. If you're truly not sure why your post was removed then it's clear you still haven't read them yet. |

The recalled Legends sheet "ought" to be selling for several hundred $$$, in my opinion. Only 100,000 or so were printed. And a smaller number are actually "pristine." Back in the 1990's, with the help of numerous friends, I acquired six or eight of the recalled Legends sheet. I opened them all and found only one that was free of bends, ugly fingerprints, or other blemishes. I kept that one. |
