Hey folks, I did a search for CC topicals here and only found one post, but it more or less only contained pics of postcards. My question is to fellow collectors in other countries as well as here in the US....is there enough stamps showing Coke to warrant starting a topical collection? My daughter (now 11 yrs. young as of 3 weeks ago) is accumulating a fairly good size collection of Coke things (Cans, bottles, clocks, etc.) and she asked me if she could start a collection of stamps. I told her I would check to see if there were any, but I haven't found much online. I don't have any WW catalogs, and I'm pretty sure I never saw any in my Mystic catalogs, so if anyone can point me to a checklist or site, or anything from your respective countries, it would be greatly appreciated by myself and the little one. Thanks everyone for the help. I haven't been around for awhile, due to family issues, but I'm ready to delve into the stamps again, hopefully with my daughter in tow. Peace, Chad

I don't think you'll find too many Coca-Cola stamps. Since Coca-Cola is a marketable product, there are a lot of hurdles to be crossed to get a stamp issued by a postal authority that is, for all intents and purposes, an advertising promotion for their product. There are a few out there, however, such as this 2002 stamp/souvenir sheet from Singapore: http://www.coca-cola.com.sg/news/lo...asp?NeID=100And this issue from Tadjikistan: |

There is, I believe a Coca Cola Postmark on the stamps of Great Britain perhaps, I was recently sorting machins, so may have been there. There is also a "Coke" postmark of a town in Virgina no longer exists. |

Jim Forte's postal history website shows five towns named "Coke," possibly referring to the mining of metallurgical coal:
Kentucky Anderson County Coke (1882-1883)
Mississippi Tishomingo County Coke (1895-1906)
Texas McLennan County Coke (1875/1883)
Texas Wood County Coke (1885-1906)
Virginia Gloucester County Coke (1900-1964) |

wt1--I didn't think we'd find too many as I thought about the licensing and all that as I told her. That sheet from Tadjikistan is beautiful though. And she loves the polar bears.
rod222--I would love to find some of those postmarks. Even though they aren't on the subject stamp, it would be nice for her collection. I just wonder how hard it would be to find it anymore.
doug2222--she would think it was hilarious if she could buy a bin-ful of Kopper's Coke. Just not sure she'd realize she couldn't drink it.
Anyhow, thanks guys, I thought this might be a dead end. I'll keep a look out for these couple and hope some fellow collectors on here come up with something else. It bums me out that my local library has NOTHING in the way of philately. I guess that's the price of a small town.
Thanks again guys. Peace, Chad |

You could always encourage collecting of Coca-Cola related postcards and covers. There are a lot of collectors out there who specialize in advertising covers and such. I found this on the internet. I imagine an original postcard like this would be quite valuable: Here's another: |

If I come across any Chad, I'll send them to you, but I don't soak many Australian stamps anymore, mostly overseas.
With a thematic, you can bump the content with ephemera as wt1 has posted, and subsidiary stamps that explain a process.
The Coca Cola stamps would be central, but you may have a page of stamps explaining the production of the famous bottle. Stamps of glass making etc.
That's the beauty of freehand thematic collecting, you are restrained by only your imagination.

rod222-you came up with a gem, I think. We love the idea of the whole process of bottle-making to cola producing, to packaging all done in stamps. I was also thinking since there are so few picturing Coke, that I could do something of a thematic picture frame like I see hanging in offices and such. Kinda like this: I think this is about my best bet at this point, plus it will be fun for us to do together. I'm going to start internet searching for a few stamps and other pics to use, maybe find some bottle caps from throughout the years to take place of the coins in the pic. The only drawback being on limited income for now, this thing may take awhile to put together, but I can't wait to show the finished product. Thanks for the ideas, folks, we do appreciate it immensely. Peace, Chad |

hi tefloncinco,
although I wish it was mine, the America goes to war frame isn't mine. I just used it for a reference. It is a nice piece though. I think done by American Coin Treasures. Anyway this is more of a template of what we're planning.
And yes, all our military deserve more than we could ever give them.
Peace, Chad |

Regarding Coca-Cola in Germany, when I was there in the Army in 1969, I guarantee you that local Coke tasted peculiar, like it had a lot of lemon flavoring added, and less sugar. When we wanted Coke (and burgers), we went to the PX; all the on-base vending machines sold German Coke priced in marks and pfennigs.
I don't remember what French Coke tasted like; the popular drink there was Orangina, which came in a blue bottle that looked like a light bulb. It had no "base," so you couldn't set it down; you either had to hold the cold bottle, or drink it all at once (then a minute later, you wanted another, they were only about 8 ounces). No "Big Gulp," LOL. |
