Help With Bob Japan

Hello again. Still working through Grandma's collection and I can't
seem to find these items in the Scott Specialized. I'm sure they are
Japan (Chrysanthemum), but I can't locate anywhere. Any advice?
Sorry for the bad condition. I haven't pulled off the page yet, and
there is obvious damage.

That's right -- and I foolishly gave the valet the night off, so I had difficulty finding my way past the conservatory ...

Anyway, just to be on the safe side, I did check in the standard reference (Shimomura 2003), and I'm afraid they're all -- but the telegraph seal (2nd row) -- of minimal value used.

That stamp on the second row is a telegraph seal (no denomination), and they're not priced in Shimomura. However, that doesn't mean that they'd be worth a lot -- there's a lot of material in there that's just unpriced. And, unfortunately, since that stamp has a pretty significant tear in it, its role is to hold a place for a better to come your way later on!

That site is quite helpful. Someday I'd like to build one that's even a little easier to use as an identifier, maybe with bigger scans.

Is that a one-time only reference book, or is that a catalog that gets updated periodically?

I'm looking at the publishing history at the back of the catalog. This is the 5th (and latest) edition. The edition before that was 1981, and the one before that 1965 (with a supplement in 1968), so it doesn't get updated very often. The first edition was 1957.

I don't even know if Mr. Shimomura is still alive, but he was in 2003, and I had ordered it directly from him back then, thanks to an article at that time in the journal for the ISJP (International Society for Japanese Philately). Unfortunately, I didn't keep up my ISJP membership for a couple of years during my philatelic hiatus (I've since rejoined), and I haven't yet ordered the back issues of the journal that I missed while I was AWOL, so perhaps there was more news about Mr. Shimomura and the catalog during that period.

Is this related to the Inshi catalog? I see that is a Japanese Revenue Catalog edited by M. Shimomura in a 2010 edition.

Yes, the 2003 is the cover of the one that I'm using. Apparently there ^is^ an updated version. I'm sorry I was away from the hobby for a couple of years.
