If we are going to discuss entertainers then How about Hunter S.Thompson? He lived in the hotel Leland in Jersey Shore for awhile in the 50's or 60's (I'm not sure) after his brief Air Force debacle.



He was a sports journalist but frequently his articles nothing about the actual sport but was a ranting and raving lunacy about midget wrestlers from Zambezi and wild animal attacks...lol He stole a bosses car and drove it into the Susquehanna River after getting drunk at a drinking establishment Down town called the Allegheny House or famously -"The Animal House".<- of which I do not yet have an image of. A hunt for a postcard has turned up nothing yet.

Costello got a lot of his material by watching Curley on stage when they were both young.

Dredging up this thread to show a companion piece that I just purchased over the weekend. The sight draft is not drawn on a Jersey Shore business, but rather the recipient and the bank that processed it is the same bank shown above.

I bought the piece for the nice cancel, but 1876 is also an incredibly late usage for a 2nd issue revenue. Virtually all of the 2nd issue stamps I've seen were used during 1871-73.

A quick online search reveals that James E. Nice (1840-1895) was the Proprietor of the Excelsior Carriage Works of Jersey Shore, PA:
