This may be a little off topic.

Because of my wife's ties to Colombia I get interested in stamps depicting something historical. Before the Internet I spent time in the library reading the history of what was being commemorated. Now the Internet is a boon for doing that sort of reading and research.

The Colombian Postal Service, old and new, has a write up of why each stamp was issued. It only goes back a few years but is interesting.

Just click on a stamp issue, under Titulo Emisíon. They have a translation option so the page can be read in English. However, the -Boletín has more information but is in Spanish.
