Collage, non-traditional #maxicard #bighorn #BighornSheep, with my MPP postmark, besides a pictorial postmark from World Philatelic Exposition/Exhibition, Washington, D.C. 2016.

**UPDATE**
wcp-nm.com fixed the issue with the slugs -- kudos to them.
**UPDATE**

Progress on the MPP -- some good, some not so good.

On the positive side, I received my MMP stamp and took a sample stamp down to the main post office. They accepted and have sent me a letter of approval.

On the negative side, the date stamper that I received is defective (slots in the stamper for MM/DD/YR rubber slugs are too small). When I contacted the vendor, I was told that I should just file them down until they fit. Which I would do if filing to fit did not mean having to remove 40% of a slug base. So, despite the MMP stamp being just fine, I will not be ordering anything else from wcp-nm.com. Also, I will have to take my mail to the mail post office. The woman in charge told me that if I take it to my local post office, "...they will not know what to do with it."

But in the end, I can now cancel my own mail, albeit with having to apply the date with each individual MM/DD/YR slug pinched between my fingers, and having to make a special trip downtown.

Can anyone recommend a vendor for a MM/DD/YR stamp?

That's weird.
Your vendor, Bill, is not the actual manufacturer of all the postmarking devices.
But he should fix somehow the problem.
I have no problem with the self-inking dated stampers from him.
More recently, I ordered from him empty-of-date postmarking devices, and I bought from him a separate date-stamper.
Why? Because when the date-stamper reaches the last useable year, then I can re-order just the "next years date-stamper", not the rest of the postmarking device.

In your case, you could also use a separate date-stamper (month, day, year) AFTER you apply the impression of the "empty" postmarking device.

My first MPP, all-leveled:

The date-stamp I added AFTER the rest of the postmark:

It's a manual operation, and sometimes you might press too hard to get a visible date-stamp. Here I tried 3 times:

dkabq8, I do not have an MPP permit, but I know several collectors who do. I could privately put you in contact with one of them.
Have you checked the APS jounral or Linn's for an advert?
Also, as far as PO personnel not knowing what to do - I have experience with that since I have had a precancel permit in the early eighties. One way is to just look up the relevant PO rules, print some copies and take them with you. Thirty-five years after I got my permit I still have to refer a clerk to the applicable rules in the Domestic Mail Manual. Especially new hires are difficult to deal with sometimes, but do not get discouraged.

Would something like this (similar to what I use) solve your problem?

Yes it would. Although I prefer the vertical alignment of the defective stamper. That said, <$10 to to replace the $34 defective stamper and slugs combo isn't a bad deal.

Thanks.

@DC3

I believe that I bought something similar to you for the same reason as you -- I bought a MPP stamp and a separate date stamp.

@Petert4522

I would like to take you up on your offer to put me in contact with other MPP collectors. I have not checked Linn's or APS; will do so. My MPP letter of approval specifically states that I have to use the main post office. I may tilt that wind mill at a later time.

Thanks.

@DC3

Turns out that the incorrect slug set (PICA 40, rather than PICA 42) was sent. The correct set will be sent to me ASAP. Looks like wcp-nm.com is out of my Book of Grudges.

Mailed my first batch of MPPs today. It took the clerks a minute to figure out what to do with them, but once they realized what they were, they took them with no problem. Apparently it has been awhile since anyone had brought in non-business precancelled mail.
