I am trying to find out if anyone might know about this stamp or its Scott Catalog number. I believe the image is of the Great Wall of China and the flag similar to other depictions on some early China stamps.

This is a revenue, unlisted in Scott or Gibbons.

Note: Bumped thread.
Last post 2013.

Stumped!
Any members skilled in manipulating colours welcomed.
I cannot read it at all, suggest a revenue of some sort.
Thanks

There's a "4" (denomination) in the upper right corner, and the top band has "people" in the middle, which we could have guessed, plus I think the four characters in center of the band reads "Central Peoples Republic" (Central China zone). Otherwise, I'm sure the printers had trouble with checking the readability of text in yellow like us, so it's probably none too clear to start.

At least part of the central inscription should be decipherable. Have at it, you guys!!

HB,
thank you so much for giving it a go,
a jolly good attempt Sir.
That gives me something to go on, I'll search my database.
It also solved the central figures, they looked English to me at first,
I thought I could see POST.

Update.
Exhausted my database. I checked every Chinese stamp image, none even came close to having an Horizontal Oval as the central design.
Checked 1000's
Checked Chinarevenues.com nothing there.

This one shall be a toughie.

And unfamiliar flags at either side. I looked online for a while for those but found nothing. Plenty of red flags otherwise.

Top left of oval, character looks like ching, white rice.

Thought bubble:
Could it be a Japanese Revenue perhaps?

Japanese occupation of China, Hong Kong with Chinese cancellation.

Add a little more contrast to the image and the details seem to pop out a bit more. It almost looks like there is a flag on either side of the oval? I'm no good with Chinese or Japanese anything yet, but maybe it will help someone else.

Wow! bravo Spain_1850. Thanks a bunch.

I have forwarded scans to the Chinese Stamp Society, I'll post any response.
That "T" with the line above it looks so much like the Japanese Post icon.

Anyone think this could be Korean? The device at bottom center looks vaguely Korean.

Gentlemen,
thanks to the China Philatelic Society...this was a toughie.
Thanks for all the replies to SCF too

With regard to the solution, I'll only refer to a Mr. Wang for identification, out of privacy respect.

Hi, Alan,
First of all this is one stamp not two. One image in yellow is the original colour while the other is in the complementary colour maybe trying to get an easier reading.
This can be classified as revenue stamp but not official. It was issued in 1928-29 by the Anti-Japanese Association of Commercial Businesses in Tientsin City. In the oval frame the words say "Type 2 Pass". Guess only goods paid for this fee were allowed to go into trading. Japanese goods were obviously not allowed.
Face value 0.4c.
On the internet I found a similar one with face value 0.1c:

Hope this helps.
Regards,
(Mr. Wang)

Well done and many thanks also to the China Philatelic Society!

For the record, my guess at text in the top band is absolutely wrong. Got the easy middle character right is all.

There's no discredit for getting something wrong,
You had a go.
It's easy to sit by and watch, but to commit ...
I respect that value.
