Crap! I just tossed a bunch of stamps with tears, thins, missing corners, etc. They are still in my waste-basket next to my desk, and now, I have to dig them out amongst the rest of the trash!! Good ideas on using them as art, etc. My wife does "arts and crafts", so I'm hoping she can make a montage...maybe on a storage box for my glacines, etc.! Thanks for the ideas!

I do. USA, and Egypt, and I agree with what you say. But I had Spanish friends in London that were afraid to return to Spain even after Franco's death. Such was the terror this man created. That was close enough for me.Yes, there cannot be many countries in the world which have not at some time had oppressive rulers, either their own countrymen or otherwise. I am simply stating my choice not to include their images in my collections. Where possible I will look for stamps like the Guernica issue which are representative of the time..

Terry

I understand the terror, my point is that any stamps issued during his rule are just as tainted. The fact that they do not have his picture is secondary. He still approved them, they reflected his thinking and attitudes. They only showed what he allowed to be shown.
You mention Egypt, they have spent their entire existence under one oppressor or another.
Obviously people can collect or refuse to collect anything they like.

OH God! I hate those Franco stamps with a passion. Maybe I'll chop mine up with the Hilter stamps and make a fascist collage - a swastika or something.

In the words of Chevy Chase "Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead" and that's a good thing.

And some day.... After everyone throws them all away.... they become rare.

Okay... maybe not.
