I went to look for Bingham's website but found nothing. Does anyone have a working link? The one provided in the newspaper article does not load. |

Hello Lordenning:
I must respectfully disagree with your statement with respect to Ron Brigham and Canadian Postal History. The quotation states "collector of Canadian stamps and their postal history" which is a lot different than "collection of postal history".
Anyone who has had the opportunity to examine any of the competitive exhibits assembled from the Brigham collections would have to agree that there cannot be much better material available on the planet. It was his Large Queens exhibit that won the FIP World Championship and his Pence Issues, 1851-1858 that won the FIP Championship Class at Belgica 2001. These two exhibits combine stamps and postal history as they both compete in the "Traditional Class".
The collection also has spectacular exhibits of Small Queens, Edwards and Admirals all of which have been shown as both competitive or Court of Honour exhibits at National level shows over the past decade.
If someone else can produce collections and exhibits with better material in this quantity and combination, I would truly love to see it.
While there have been many notable collections of stamps and postal history assembled by Canadian philatelists over the last century, I personally believe that Ron Brigham has earned the right to claim the title of "the leading collector".

I tried to order a catalogue but I am not sure it is going to work. I had to use my VPN to even get access to the site, it asks for an address with no country field and it mentions that the catalogue is complimentary but someone will contact to discuss payment. Don't have much hope I will get a free catalogue. |

It doesn't say what kind of business he was in. But if this is the only thing he spent money on (or mortgaged his house for) it is possible that he wasn't super wealthy...at least not until he sells the stamps.
I like his reasoning: "I'm old," he says. "I want to make sure I have the pleasure of seeing where they go." |

I think that he's the CEO of his company. However, I did not know about his full collection until it was being advertised for sale recently. I do know that after inquring about certain unique Canadian stamp varieties to certain very important and large Canadian stamp dealers, I was told that they were in a large important Canada stamp collection, but I was never told the name of the collection's owner. I made inquiries since I studied certain stamps. |
