Why didn't they just make it 50 cents? Easier to remember.

Speaking of the apple stamp, we happened to get a new rate postcard in the mail today. Something for my wife with the apple stamp plus a 1 cent tiffany lamp to cover the 1c increase.

At least you got a legible ink jet postmark ... and to find it on a postcard is an even scarcer event!

Did you read about a town who recently generated one of their bills to town residents (water bill?) via postcard and the USPS kept refusing to "slow down" their automated mailing machines to accommodate postcards so they sat and arrived at the taxpayer's home late with late fees due?

I didn't read that. One more reason to appreciate e-mail statements and paying online.

Minneapolis seems to do a pretty good job with the mail. Maybe too good, we always have plenty of junk with too few stamps in our mailbox 6 days a week. I don't know much about modern postmarks, but I do actually LOOK at my junk mail now... if only for the occasional piece with a postage stamp.
