Hi all, Received your email Tinman. I'll get those out to you today. Mike33 I.O.U. Thanks for the help.
Carabop they charge about $1.25 to ship. One thing with those hinges is I never use my tongue to moisten them, I use a small sponge with a little water. My grandmother always told me that the enzymes in your body don't mix well with the glue on hinges or stamps. She said that's why some stamps have terrible stains and hinges don't peel well. I never investigated it further. So I have never licked stamps or hinges. Gary

Gary I sent you an email a little while ago. But I don't know if you got it or not. Anyway I want to thank you and Mike for your generous offer and willingness to give me, send me some sample Hinges. Thank you both for being so diligent and relentless last night. What a trip but your efforts paid off. The trouble had to be in the server because my test email went through to everybody in my address book ok. Anyway Thank you both from the bottom of my heart. Stamp collectors are the greatest.

No, they are now less expensive at 2.95 including shipping. I just put stamp hinges in search and they were on the second page. Don't know that I have been here long enough to add a link to it.

I go through about 2-3 packs of hinges a month, and I've used a good half dozen different brands this year. They're all the same, as far as I can tell. I've also heard that they're all made by the same manufacturer, regardless of what the name on the package says.

I've more or less resigned myself to the fact that there is no such thing as a truly peelable hinge (much like the old Dennison hinges) made today. The key is (as it always has been) to go gently on the moisture, but it's very easy to overdo it. What I find aggravating anymore is that most of them seem to curl up really bad to the point where they're hard to use. The only ones I've found recently that haven't curled on me were Stanley Gibbons hinges, which I'll be ordering again just for that reason, hoping they don't curl, either.

I use a 3-tier system myself, with the vast majority of common stamps getting a "modern" hinge; delicate stamps or those cataloguing more than a few dollars getting an old, peelable, Dennison hinge, and stamps cataloguing into the tens of dollars and up going in a clear mount.

Hi TheArtfulHinger! Question: Can't you just remove hinges the same way you remove the stamp from paper, i.e. soaking it? I'd consider that once I've removed the stamp from paper to prevent stamp damage.

Of course I'm not adding stamps to specialized paper (fancy folders and such) but to my own cardstock so I'm not too worried about the sheet getting damaged. I can see why other collectors would want to avoid that though.

Yes, for used stamps soaking them off works fine. I'm not advocating to anyone to hinge a never hinged stamp, but I'll hinge a previously hinged unused stamp nearly every time and will do so on really common NH material as well. At any rate, I personally prefer not to soak stamps with gum on them, so the peelability factor is more important on mint stamps.

I am surprise nobody mentioned the FOLD-O-HINGE made by HARCO, these hinges have worked well for me and are removable .As mentioned above ,the way you moisten the hinge makes a difference in its peelability. On the subject of hinging MNH stuff ,unless its worth $25.00 or more it really makes no difference on the resale of your collection .
