David,

I double-clicked the link to http://www.filbert.com/stamplistope...reshers.htm. Got that OK but got a "404" file not found message when I double-clicked on Watermarks 7/10/2000. I thought I was going to be redirected. What did I do wrong?

(In the Olden Days, we would solve this problem with meta tags, but The World's Primary Search Engine has been ignoring them for years, with good reason.)

You're exactly right. The meta tags alone were not sufficient for our SEO strategy, thus the changing of the column title. To be honest, I like 'refresher course' better as well, but bigger forces than myself were at work with this.

The article-by-article links at http://www.filbert.com/stamplistope...freshers.htm re-direct to the site, yes, but not to the individual articles.

Wow, I wasn't aware this index existed. For whatever reason these links have a different URL.

For example, the first listing in that index is http://www.linns.com/print/archives...efresher.asp

While on the old Linn's site, that same article was listed as http://old.linns.com/howto/refreshe...rcourse.aspx

This second URL that included 'howto/refresher/' were the vanity URL-type that was linked to the new site. So if any authors linked using those URLs (which, I hope, most did) then they will be re-directed to the exact article on the new site.

However, I will work on getting that directory index linked over this week!

Thanks for the heads up ikeyPikey!

Best,

David

Hi Jack,

Linn's wasn't aware that this particular index existed, so those URLs have not been linked to the new site. Until they are, try searching for the article you are looking for on the new site by going to to the search bar and typing in the refresher course article title.
