Although Puerto Rico will not participate in the November 8, 2016, general election because it is a territory and not a state, the five non-incorporated territories that send delegates to the United States House of Representatives participated in the presidential primaries (see wikip). The stamp commemorates the inauguration of the first governor who was elected in 1948.

The ballot box in Mauritius is made of beautiful wood. Suffrage became universal in 1956. National Day is on the 12th of March and marks independence from Britain in 1968 and becoming a republic in 1992.

An isolated thumb, Le Pouce, standing up to 12 meters tall and weighing about 18 tons was cast by the sculptor César Baldaccini (1921-1998) and can be seen in Paris. His own thumb was the model. Other cities have also acquired one, cast in bronze or iron.

Hi, Soccerfan, Thanks for the link; I see you are fairly new to the Community, welcome. I'm glad to see someone is enjoying this thread.

Usually one speaks of the boot prints that have been left on the moon's surface; this Belgian stamp, 2001, shows a distinct finger print!

The contemporary artist Christian Vind (1969- ) calls his fingerprint "Post Scriptum"; after having written the letter, the stamp is pressed onto the envelope. The stamp measures 4.3 X 5.1 cm, so this may be the print of a very large thumb (his own left?).

Spain commemorated Interpol in 2005 with a stamp depicting an infant on a fingerprint, drawing attention to the fact that individuals can be identified by their fingerprints from birth on. The logo is that of Interpol, with the scales of justice and the sword of punishment (and the colors of Spain).

Liechtenstein also used a fingerprint to commemorate having been a member of Interpol for 50 years in 2010. Map of the world within the print. Nowadays the filing card is probably outdated in most countries.

The 20th of November is International Rights of the Child UNICEF Day.
Aruba's set of 4 of 2015 are just right for the day. Unfortunately I don't know the name of the artist.

Chile commemorated 50 years of Interpol in 1973 with a large fingerprint carrying a map. Fingerprints are still important for identifying individuals, but they are only one of many biometric features now used.
