Yes, just because it is old doesn't make it good art. And just because it is art doesn't make it good.

I, personally, don't like too much these stamps. But, I don't feel ofended for the subject and I guess most European people wouldn't mind at all. Anyway, in W. Europe, we see these things in a more relaxed way than in the US. |

Looks like most of "Nudes on Stamps" are women. Maybe the Finland postal agency is trying to even the score.
Since most stamp collectors are male, perhaps Finland should issue a sequel "Thomasina of Finland."
The thought also occurred to me that the Tom of Finland stamps might be just the ticket for mailing invitations to gay male weddings.

I don't like it at all. It shows gays in a sex game of master and slave. Gays they don't like to be consider less of a man. But here's a stamp that show they do the same with their sex partner. |

Quote: [video] Should re-awaken an interest in stamp collecting. What, no catalog numbers? Gotta buy TC a thesaurus to go with his collection of fiction about stamps. "Re-awaken"? What a lost opportunity. Let's see: how about "give rise to"? Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

Hi IkeyPikey,
Life is full of those nice missed opportunities. But why would I need a thesaurus? Re-awaken was included as a response to the numerous posts on here about how to do just that with regard to stamp collecting, and in deference to the more upright citizens among us. (see). My list of books featuring stamps is under review and may get some more titles added. I am also starting a collection of mail and postal references in fiction along with the content of the more interesting letters. First example soon.

Hi DonSellos,
I suspect that if the Finns put Thomasina of Finland on their stamps she wouldn't be there to appeal to us guys. Still.

These posts made me laugh and some nearly brought tears to my eyes. Now it's up to you to figure out if these tears are from laughing or sentiment! And like a jsck-in-the-box, thoughts popped up:
Nude statues are all over a good portion of the world. Go stamps!
The female form, to me, is the most beautiful thing that God has put on this earth!

Just to carry the thought a post too far, "re-awaken" implies that the problem is dormancy (we should be so lucky) rather than, say, competition, change, et al. Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

From my thesaurus, reawaken: restore (a feeling or state), emerge again, return. Fits lost interest in stamp collecting for me.
