For the life of me, I can not figure out WHY anyone would need six months to figure out that something is SNAD or not (other than extensions for third party expertizing, which really, in the entire spectrum of categories on ebay, only a handful of Collectibles use third party expertizing (Stamps, Coins, Autographs, baseball cards, etc)??

Or am I missing something here?

It's ebay's site, so they can dictate business practices for anyone selling there if they'd like, but they shouldn't be surprised when buyers sellers look for (and eventually find) greener pastures.

I beg to differ, Jenny. From the beginning, ebay's organizing principle has been "bring quality buyers, and the sellers will follow". This was oft-stated in their press releases, annual reports, etc.

And it makes sense: the cash buyers' bring is better bait for sellers than anything the sellers might offer.

I won't meet or raise Bill's bet, but I have a small pile of books that I thought I would use to begin an ebay seller account so that, some day, I could begin to whittle-down my post(al) card pile, but the idea of being on the hook for six months kinda leaves me cold.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

So ebay is forcing a 6 month warranty on all goods?

But all goods do not need a 6 month warranty!

A stamp made before, say, 1930 can get a lot of environment damage in 6 months! Sadly!

The baseball card thing is really pissing off the sellers. Rookie cards of prospects are the cards selling for tons of money before the player gets called up. Once he's called up, prices drop and collectors move on to the next prospect with all the hype. Now, when a rookie doesn't do so well after the call up, gets injured or the prices just naturally fall like they always do, returns are going to go though the roof. There are a ton of scumbags in the sports collecting marketplace already and this will breed them like rabbits

Pathetic move by ebay
