Moreover, I was specifically addressing (after specifically quoting) Basil's post about maximizing profit which, in turn, was based on our shared understanding of microeconomics.

That having been said, it is true that I have a preference for discussing other people's behavior in a distanced, third-person sort of way; this is to allow a reasoned discussion of issues, with less opportunity for a less-distanced, personal ...

Q/ Would 'he has people who do some or all of it' explain the erratic pricing?

Cheers,

No, he sets the pricing - others are involved in the scanning & shipping.

If anything explains "erratic pricing" (other than those I noted earlier in this thread) it is that he is too busy to give careful attention to it. He is easily one of the hardest-working people I've ever known. He attends virtually every major public auction, he spends hours viewing the material beforehand. He attends virtually every stamp show nationwide of any size (including the biggest coin and paper money shows too!). He also does lots of private sales, gets the material described and in the hands of the people who list it on ebay, etc. He also is highly skilled, having one of the best "eyes" I've ever encountered. He knows exactly what he's buying and exactly what he's selling.

Being too busy is an eplanation but a poor excuse for poor quality control (or intentional misleading depending on how you view him).

Just a quick comment on Bill Langs...
Im sure everyone receives Happy Thanksgiving emails for dealers/auction houses.....
I received a few....all standard....mass email sent out in bulk.
BUT...yesterday I received a Happy Thanksgiving text on my cell phone
from Bill.....He is a very thoughtful person.
Again....just my opinion.

For those of you with kind comments about Lang, do you know if he pays 3-4x what other dealers would pay for his stock? If so,I might suggest my heirs contact him first when the time comes.
