Studbaker you get all it wrong; I'm not in business of selling stamps album, I want first to satisfy my needs and other who want something a little bit more elaborate than a Scott Int, something to include single stamps instead of souvenir sheets. Now it's me who will make the hard work so of course I will do something I like , not something other want I do.
I learn something on forums over the years; peoples have a lot of idea. But when it's time to invest they run away.
I have some lines defines but other lines are not, this is where I pool, I don't have a rigid line for the cut off in price tag, so I'm looking for suggestions. I may also appreciate a lot input for some country, this is why I will post finished pages with stamps on my web site to see what peoples have to say and what can be done to improve then, and only after they will be available to download.

Now the color of the stamps and this "face different", again it's a World album, cuts are to be made, so if 2 stamps are exactly the same on face, I do see the purpose too have 2 of them because of a watermark, this will avoid the very expensive and hard to find ones. But if you read my first post I will include both with and without watermark.

Honestly, given the plethora of album choices already out there,

I have not find one yet that give choice to collect single canceled stamps

I get this... In terms of software world, you're branching from the main - to make it more You. The way I see it's just one more option / alternative that collectors could choose from. Absolutely nothing bad in it. IMHO it's even admirable and surprising that it took this many years for somebody to do so.

-k-

You get it right another option / alternative collectors can choose from. Too many peoples thing it as to be Steiner or Scott, it as to be Republican or Democrat... I like to think outside the box when I need it. I'm also not the kind who will say this product is perfect, we don't need another one.

Having room for tenants in your album is actually free. You can just mount the single stamps, and if you ever get the real tenant you can just replace the single stamps. Some commercial albums have room for both - which I absolutely hate.

You should seriously look into the XML to PDF program I linked to in page 1 of this thread. It gives you the option to 'tag' and differentiate what you want to print. This gives people the customization we all want.

I look forward to seeing your sample pages.

Hi,
"Album Selection", a subject near and dear to me..........
I'm 70 years old (retired financial analyst) and I got back into the hobby about 4 years ago. Initially it was for USA stamps, but before I jumped in I did a lot of research on albums. I ended up with the Scotts Nationals, going thru the year 2000. I've got three albums, 1847 thru 1970, 1971 thru 2000, BOB of all kinds thru 2000. Looking back objectively, I could not have made a better selection.

The worldwide was more difficult. To make a long story short, I ended up with Scott internationals and have 5 binders going from 1840 thru 1960. The Scott Internationals were sourced from ebay (old stock of course) and have worked out fairly well. They of course are not perfect, with my biggest gripe being the many pages with one or two stamps, and the difficulty in the continuity from the end of Volume 1 to the beginning of Volume 2, etc.

Here is the deal.......... I had no idea when I got into international collecting as to how strong my interest would be and therefore got - in my opinion - the best albums for the money off ebay. Today, I realize my interest has held up and continues to be very strong. If I had to do it over, I would have worked with Subway and get the new prints of the Scotts Internationals- which have better paper, better flow, etc.

Hindsight is pretty good, of course...........

Isn't it funny how that works? I was looking for a good WW album, but didn't want to spend a lot. Made a couple abortd attempts at low-end albums and ended up discovering Steiner. Within 6 months I had around 30 or 35 2" binders sitting on my shelves, and my collecting took off in ways I would never have imagined. If I had to do it over again, I'd still use Steiner, but I probably would have printed at least a half-dozen fewer countries that I just don't have time for, and probably set some earlier cutoff dates on others. It takes a lot of time to keep up with mounting stamps that I get from various bulk lots and kiloware that I buy and some countries rarely get visited anymore.

Completely agree. I am just too lazy to remount 20K stamps from my 1969 Scott International volume one into the current four part edition--which I own! Sheesh. But future International collectors: do as I say, not as I do. You will be a lot happier in the long run (if poorer in the short).

Back to the topic, here the last page I did only few minutes ago, the stamps on the top was a strip of 5 and the one down a bloc of 6 , I strip them down to fallow my singles stamps only album. This pages and other of my real album will be on my web site, so it will be easy to identify witch stamp go where.

And here the original Steiner, notice how the one at bottom as the wrong label, this is a 75 who go there not a 5, that's a small mistake, the huge one is thoses stamps come in block of 6 ' Steiner don't notice the stip of the top and bottom are not the same. I will offer also this page with the strip corrected

There is also the consideration of the selvedge or edging of stamps. Corner selvefge is worthy of note for the colour traffic-light symbols, plate numbers and printer information. All of these make the stamp)s) more collectible and enjoyable.

So,
I would like to have available the placing of a different sized frame around a stamp with two sides selvedge and one side selvedge, and perhaps more together.

This would require a separate printing of another page but worth it.

I have not printed any pages for myself yet.

Perhaps the frame can be larger to start with, with choices having double and triple frames around a single stamp, and others with selbedge only one frame around?

Puzzler, your best solution is to order the CD of Steiner and install Libre Office ( it's free ) on your PC and do the frames like you want, itt's very simple, you open the page of Steiner in Libre Office Draw right click on the frame and enter the dimensions in the windows

I begin to get the picture now, Area66. The very Steiner pages you criticize so unreservedly are your taken-for-granted foundation, which you then modify to suit your preferences, a country at a time, as you see fit.

Far from designing a new world wide album you are using and modifying Steiner, as have countless others. But most people who do that readily acknowledge their debt to his work, grateful that he makes it available at such a modest cost. Had he not done so, no one would be playing around with his pages so freely. It's the immense work he's done and made available for a pittance that permits you to do what you are doing. I wish you well in your venture. It is a testimony to the great contribution William Steiner has made to the hobby.

If his system is bought up by one of the major pubishers, this party-time will come to an end. His pages will be protected by a strict copyright and freely modifying them a thing of the past. Or at least the owner will attempt that. Whether the new owner will succeed or not, who knows?

But for now we should acknowledge what William Steiner has done for us.

Agree with HIERONYMUS, 100% . Steiner had a big part in keeping advance collectors going and made expanding ones collection easier and cheaper ,I for one didn't want to go into the Scott Speciality Series of country collecting .

I believe Steiner has already licensed his pages to Palo Albums, has he not?

Yet he has kept the basic format available for all collectors at a very modest cost. I agree, we all owe an enormous debt to Bill Steiner.
