The oldest nude?

The Venus of Willendorf is an 11-centimeter-tall figurine discovered in 1908 at a Paleolithic archaeological site near the village of Willendorf in Austria. It is linked to the Upper Paleolithic Gravettian culture, which dates back between 33,000 and 20,000 years.

Death and the Bride

Marking the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps, this haunting image captures the symbolic essence of life and death within the Nazi torture chambers. A young girl lies motionless, her innocence and vitality starkly juxtaposed with the skeletal figure that rests upon her. The naturalistic rendering of the skeleton—an unambiguous emblem of death—intensifies the contrast, evoking the brutal collision between youth and mortality, hope and horror. Together, the figures form a chilling tableau that speaks to the enduring trauma and the fragile resilience of life in the shadow of atrocity.

Judith

Tone Kralj (1900–1975) represents a key figure in Slovenian Expressionism and New Objectivity. His body of work, in addition to family portraits, encompasses historical scenes of peasant uprisings and wars, rural and working-class life, as well as biblical scenes (such as Judith, 1934).

Michelangelo: David

(EUROPA 1986)
A detail from Michelangelo's sculpture David, created between 1501 and 1504 and housed in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. The mouth and nose symbolize pollution as perceived through the senses. They emphasize that all environmental protection efforts place humans at the center, and that ultimately, these efforts aim to safeguard human health and ensure the continued existence of humanity.
