As a followup to my comments about cutting my own, this is a picture of my Showgard cutter - purchased in 1976. Over 5,000 cuts to date and still in perfect condition. I love this thing.

I have posted elsewhere on here about my experience with these albums, so far- I like them. I have placed two orders from the USA with their website in Germany and both times got my order in under two weeks via DHL.

I do not like the split back mounts but just to see if I could change my mind I bought some hingeless pages for my Berlin collection from them. I think after using them I prefer to cut my own, open top mounts. Once you get the hang of it, they are not all that bad but I find placing stamps in them is very time consuming. I could cut my own mounts, affix them and place stamps on three pages in the time it takes me to just insert stamps on one page. My last experience until recently with these albums was more than 30 years ago. Back then they were being produced in the DDR sector of Germany and as one might expect were not a quality product. My recent experience with them is that their page stock is much improved, they have some very attractive options for binders. They have the feel of old classic albums from Europe and I like that.

I don not have the link at hand for their home office but if anyone is interested I can post it. They take all credit cards and Paypal.

I would like to thank all of you so much. There are so many company's out there trying to get your money, and when you only have so much to spend you like to make it only once. Now weather to go with a Hingeless Album or just cut my own. This is a very big decision for me.

Pre-prepared leaves can be roughly double the price of leaves without hinges. An alternative is to look at auctions for an album with or without stamps - saves a lot on buying the things new!
