I think I'm gone start to look at Canadian's cover and postmark, I will give a try to BNAPS, it must have info or at least resource peoples on those subject.
Just as a follow-up here. I have been really impressed with my membership to BNAPS. The Topics journal is a great read and there has been a lot of personal interaction from the main BNAPS group in processing my enrollment as well as the study group I elected to join. Seems like a good fit for what I wanted.
The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada is the umbrella organization for any Canadians who collect any kind of stamps from any country or any topic. It's the APS of Canada. The British North America Philatelic Society concentrates on the stamps and postal history of Canada and its former provinces which were once colonies or other Dominions (Newfoundland). Similar organizations in the US would be the Classics Society and the United States Stamp Society.
If I were a Canadian, I would become a member of both societies. Since I'm a US resident and citizen, I am a member of all three mentioned US societies. I'm also a member of the BNAPS
