The Twelve Tribes of Israel are, according to Hebrew scriptures, the descendants of the biblical patriarch Jacob, also known as Israel, who collectively form the Israelite nation. The tribes were through his twelve sons through his wives, Leah and Rachel, and his concubines, Bilhah and Zilpah.
During 1955-1956, Israel issued a set of definitive stamps. The stamps show the symbols of the tribes and each tab has a Biblical phrase describes the tribe:
Reuben - "Let Reuben live…", Deuteronomy XXXIII, 6
Simeon - "… and the tribes of Israel were gathered together…", Deuteronomy XXXIII,5
Levi - "They shall teach Jacob thy judgements, and Israel thy law…", Deuteronomy XXXIII, 10
Judah - "Judah is a lion's whelp… ", Genesis IL, 9

Dan - "Dan shall judge his people…", Genesis IL, 16
Naphtali - "Naphtali is a hind let loose… ", Genesis IL, 21
Gad - "Gad, a troop shall overcome him…", Genesis IL, 19
Asher - "Out of Asher his bread shall be fat… ", Genesis IL, 20

Issachar - "And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times…", I Chronicles XII, 32
Zebulun - "… shall be for an haven of ships…", Genesis IL, 13
Joseph - "…blessed of the Lord be his land…", Deuteronomy XXXIII, 13
Benjamin - " …in the morning be shall devour the prey…", Genesis IL, 27
