I used to sell and buy on e-bay all the time, now mostly buying through Amazon. I really hate the "recycled" priority mail envelopes that sellers seem to use from California. I sometimes see "arrived damaged at post office" rubber stamped on those . For shipping I follow one simple rule: If you dropped the boxed item from 5 feet to the floor would it survive? If the answer is yes, then you have packaged the item properly,

As long as we're talking about shipping, has anyone else tried the "Partners Brand Environmentally Responsible Packing Peanuts" available at Staples?

They are made from corn starch, and melt in your mouth, not in your hand.

Great for magic tricks, as a bath toy, etc.

Cheers,

We tried these when they first came out in the 1990s and quickly moved away from them. They are heavier than typical recycled (green) peanuts. The early generations of them attracted bugs and rodents. And if the parcel gets wet, the corn starch melts into a mess and loses all the desired dunnage qualities. And of course many receivers do not like packing peanuts in any format.

Las year I bought a few boxes of covers from Germany and the seller used Styrofoam packing peanuts for protection and nothing else. Luckily nothing was damaged, but the cleaning up the peanuts was a mess. Static cling didn't help, but I think I managed to remove every bit of the little things from all the covers. For bulk lots it would have been better to place the covers in a very large plastic bag and fill the voids with crumbled paper, bubble wrap of some sort or even wadded grocery store plastic bags.
