Greetings to all of you who have made it to the NYC 2016 Show.

While waiting for a response to get contact information with a specialist, I found this note written by Craig Selig. Many of you will recognize his name. When I googled, US stamp Scott # 830b, many things, including this thread on SCF, came up. He included this text under an 830b, on his site, pnc3.com;

"While not an expert, I am skeptical that the APS, PF, and PSE are all singing from the same songbook regarding what is ultramarine, deep ultramarine blue, blue, and deep blue. It is not my attempt to editorialize, but rather to show their results and let the reader puzzle over the results."

I do not have the contacts to ask any of the above named expertizers
to bring their examples to the NYC 2016 Show.
I would have no problem bringing my example to the show.
I would only need an invitation, from essayk, a verifiable expertizer, or someone contactable from any of the above named organizations.

I called Craig Selig yesterday. We had a very interesting conversation. Hard to believe, he answered his phone the first time I called him. Exactly what I always tried to do as a realtor.
He is not an expert of this issue, but certainly well versed on the subject.
He was not familiar with SCF, so I guided him onto this thread.

He did confirm what eyeonwall had stated, that the pencil mark could
be a count # off the press. I can now see that it may be an upside down 3.
eyeonwall; I thought you meant accounting, like at the post office.
I saw it as an initial or part of a name.

We agreed that the expertizers do not appear to "be singing from the same songbook". We also agreed that many older certs would not be re-certified today. We also spoke of the images that made me see, day and night, could be from before scanning. He did confirm that there are some examples of the deep blue. I would still like to see what examples are being used to expertise.

Stay tuned for the rest of the story!

I saw a PSE guy at the show, but I don't think they had a booth there. He definitely is interested in color shades as he was involved in a long discussion about the pigeon blood pink at Westpex in 2015.

Thank you eyeonwall for your post! I am happy that I did not
aggravate you so much by my posts, that you would not reply.
I will look into the PSE specialist.

Thank you flipacoin for the excitement you shared.
I feel the same way.

JLLebbert, earlier in this thread, I stated that "there was not
an 830b on ebay that had a PF certificate, now or maybe ever". I was wrong. My ebay skills are weak. I searched more than once, and never saw what was out there. I am learning something new every day.

It has been brought to my attention, that there are more listings than I thought. I am not sure how many are actually 830b's. Many of the listings are being offered by billsbargainstamps. Many of you may recognize the owner, as Bill Langs. I was told there is some history on that name, on SCF. I did read some of it. It seems that some of his offerings, and his ethics, have been under scrutiny. I am not here to judge him.

Sometimes when I get exited, I shoot from the hip. Human nature can allow all of us to get into things, sometimes without knowing enough to hold back. I have posted as I see things.

My apologizes if I have sounded bombastic in any way.

I am interested in any information and other examples.

Respectfully,

Hello again, it's me.

I called Bill Langs, of, billsbargainstamps, earlier tonight. He also answered his phone the first time I called him. Six minute call.
He let me speak first. I did say plenty. He said more than once that he wanted his five seconds. When he spoke, first he said, scan issues, then said that, "this is ten listings out of seventy five thousand and was of no concern." and had to excuse himself.

I was not here to judge him, however, he is not a good listener!

While searching on SCF I came across the thread, "209b disappointment". It spoke of color differences that seemed close to my issue. I did post my 830b and an image from "The Swedish Tiger", on that thread. After communicating with Roger Kirby, from the Swedish Tiger, I have learned and should thank him for several things;

Try not to, even if not meaning to, chat on line regarding someone else's interests, without trying to communicate with them first.
I was trying to bring attention to the new PF cert. With all of the confusion regarding color variations of past 830B's, this should be the new norm. I have stated to him off list, that I never said that his colors were inaccurate. I did state my many years of adoration to his site. It is one of my earliest sites for knowledge, way before SCF. The image that he used, was an image already posted on this thread from Siegel.

A text and an attachment from Roger that solidifies my thoughts regarding the pencil marking on my example;

"The pencil marking could possibly be a letter M. FDR has a loopy handwriting (see top example in attachment, and it may have been the first letter of a notation made by him. Having said this the White House usher also had a style similar to the notation, and he may have recorded it for documentation. I doubt the the pencil mark can be positively identified".

I have been checking the PF data base every week or so since I got my certificate in March. It has finally been added. While looking at my cert I noticed they had added three others. There are now 17. Of those they have stated that six are not 830b's.

What I found interesting was three of the four that have just been added state that they are not 830b's. Those three state; "AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT IT IS NOT SCOTT 830b, THE COLOR HAS BEEN CHEMICALLY ALTERED. * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I would assume that they were all submitted by the same person since the cert #'s are 532664,532665 and 532669.

I would also like to concede that I notice a difference in PF's image
of my own block. When I first saw it I did not think that it was mine.
I also noticed a yellow stain above the top left stamp on the cert that is not on my block. That I can not explain. Maybe their scanner had something on it. I checked my block nervously thinking that something was spilled on it. It is as clean as fresh snow.

Edit: When we copied the image to save it, there was a very distinct
green color at the bottom 20% of the block. Now when I look there I see the center perf holes pulling to the left. Any comments?

My image.

PF's image.

The perfs measure the same throughout the height of the block; the center row and left row are parallel.

Hi Don, I know that my perfs are fine. It is the image on PF that looks strange. The lower center perfs pull to the left. I have never seen anything like it.
This is a link to there 830b's.

So The PF didn't close the lid on the scanner, or what caused the ripple effect and staining

My least favorite song on my all time favorite album.....but it's "big" ideas, images....etc...

Heard someone play "Tangled" at a party in the summer of '75, and I bought the album the next day, and a cheap guitar the next week....first song I ever learned how to play!

Thanks so much for the post! Ray

Thank you Cilateliph and GeoffHa,
My guess is that I will forget about the stamps tonight.
I have been on a Pandora/Dylan/ you tube adventure since reading your posts!

Hey Ray, 1965, I was 10 and bought my first guitar. E-D-A were not grills back then for me. They are the only three chords to G-L-O-R-I-A. That was my first song.

When I was thirteen my band played at my schools 8th grade dance.

I do not play much these days, but I can still hit every note in "House of the Rising Sun" or a set of any Twelve bar Blues! I had tickets to the Doors in Prov RI at the "The RI Auditorium" in 1968, before the show was cancelled for bad behavior by Jim Morrison.

Thank you for sharing! If it wasn't for my music, I am not sure how long I could continue to look at my stamps.

I hope to get back on track tomorrow!

Edit; I had G as the first chord. It is E.
