What Areas Do You Collect?

I'm curious to know what everyone collects. I focus on Dakota Territory, South Dakota, Lyon County Iowa and Southwest Minnesota.

Walter, welcome to the forum. I suppose you collect mainly postal history - is that correct?
I specialize in the US Transportation series mainly. Also Switzerland used.

I collect US airmail and aviation topical stamps and covers (mostly FDCs). I've expanded a bit into WW2 patriotic covers because of an exhibit I'm working on.

Me - Used worldwide prior to 1970 as well as First Issue you S Revenues especially R27.

You must be from around the Northwest corner of Iowa as I am guessing from your interest in the postal history of that area. I'm from around the UofI area in east central Iowa. I have a minor collection of mid 1800's small Iowa towns covers but do not persue them actively. I generally collect pre 1941 world in the Scott International Vol 1 album and have several specialized country collections including Newfoundland, Sweden, Switzerland and a few others mostly pre 1950's. I'm a "pigeon hole" collector most generally and want to fill in spaces. I have most of my collection on spread sheets with the available numbers I need to fill as a want list. I buy most of my stamps off the bay but do go to stamp shows to find the material which is usually cheap and not seen on ebay. That is the best way to get the that kind of stuff. Good luck on your collecting interest and check ebay for that kind of stuff. You might also check with Iowa Stamps and Coins (Terry Holdridge) from Des Moines. He specializes in US material and may have some of your needs. I don't think he sells on ebay. Cheer! Wolf-==-

Yes, my collection is mostly postal history. I was into stamps when I was a kid, but once I found postal history I've been focused on that.

I'm from Sioux Falls, SD which is just a couple from the NW Iowa and SW Minnesota border.

I think the writer of the initial post was asking what US Covers we have in our collections, not about other stamps or covers.

I collect RPO covers carried on the narrow gauge Pacific Coast Railway between Port Harford, CA (now Avila Beach) and Los Olivos, CA, in the 1880 to 1930 period. The line, just 76 miles long, served lightly populated areas at the time so the amount of postal history material available now is small.

I live just down the road in Sioux City, IA. Nice to see another "Siouxlander" on here! The only postal history I collect is from my original hometown of Granville in Sioux County, IA. I've only managed to find 2 or 3 pieces on ebay in about 2 years of looking, and in fact I think I bought one of those from you just a few weeks ago. It was a nice piece and the sender had a last name I recognize from the community - a likely ancestor of a classmate of mine. Please be sure to let me know if you come across any others!

I have a small collection of Iowa covers, other sundry covers,and a collection of U.S.,but mostly I collect WW used these days. I'm from west central Iowa originally, (Denison) but live in Oklahoma now.

I've recently started collecting items from Oneida County in upstate NY, primarily Utica and nearby. Grew up in the area but have lived elsewhere since college. Fascinating knowing a little of the historical context and even the family names of some of the things I've seen.

I collect U.S. stamped envelopes. EFOs especially.

I picked up a nice entire at NY2016. I'm guessing the setoff is a fingerprint. I wonder if the inked finger got its ink from a freshly printed envelope or from an inked die?

Looks like you'd have to have a pretty big finger to get the whole impression transferred. I does look like a fingerprint though. Wolf-==-
