I don't throw anything away. I have recycled old album pages; with stamps; in poor condition since my town in metro Denver has a recycling station (in lieu of curbside recycling). I've donated some album pages; in good condition; to the Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library for their auctions. I do not recommend giving stamps to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any other local charity unless one knows for sure that they have someone in their development office who knows stamps. Most local charities would not know what to do with donations of stamps. |

For some items I have started giving them away in the form of monthly contests. I usually also have a box full of old 'beginner' albums so I periodically fill them up and give them away to younger kids. Lastly, I use some duplicates to make various 'stamp' decoupage items like lamp shades, clocks, and mugs. Don |

I find it rather sad that some members will throw their excess and damaged stamps away. They have so many uses, including many mentioned here. |

Quote: ... Wouldn't take long before my taxable income would be zero. I think the IRS would probably have something to say about the legality of that ... There is a specific coupla-thousand-dollar limit per year below which you are reasonably safe, and above which you are self-red-flagging. I keep a PDF document with targets for donation; send me an eMail address & I will send the current version. Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

ikey: I'm thinking of local branches of these nation-wide charities. It's been almost 20 years since I was in the field of working with disabled persons. I recall at least three Goodwills in Colorado, each of them a separate chapter. The only reference I saw, in a quick check of your link, was to a Goodwill in Wisconsin. What I said still stands, regarding having someone in the local office, wherever that might be, who knows stamps. |

For this sort of stuff, ignorance isn't a barrier. The branch simply has to bag it up and send it on, usually to a head office, where it will be mixed with other incoming material and sold as kiloware. |

I have had thrift store experience and agree that most end up in the trash unless they are in a binder and then we use to put it out for $1.99. Never ever found anything of value in the three years I worked there. |
