GJP,
Cool, we are pulling for Robert. Do you know if these were faked?

Don, I know that some of these have been faked but, until I have had an opportunity to do a cursory forensic examination, I have no reason to think that these are not good. I get as big a kick out of proving something to be good as I do discovering a "not so good"item. That's why my job at the Greene Foundation is the best job in the world (even though there is no paycheque involved).

Garfield..I have to thank you, Gary, and Jim, for the information and support you and BNAPS have given me..I have applied all the information given me and now believe probably 95% that these are authentic..Of Course Garfield a trip to BNAPS to analyse some more cant hurt.

Any one out there that has not joined BNAPS or is thinking of joining..Do it soon..I am impressed with the level of commitment and help they offer to the average stamp collector..This is a class organization..JOIN...And support the Greene foundation

Hi guys.
Here is an update as to whether a double perfin is fake or not...BNAPS and the Greene Foundation with the help of gportch and Jim and Gary I have analysed my #0269 (Scott 269) stamp.

As you can see, I choose this one which has not just double perfin, but quadruple perfin on the stamp below.

I took two strikes of the "H" in O.H.M.S. perfin...Look at the similarities of the shape of the holes...This indicates the use of the same perfin punch and not a post made up punch.

Now, look at the picture below of a close up of the two punches...the rough feathery edges are at the back of the perfin holes indicating thy were punched from the front of the stamp.

This is a little rarer, in that it is a quadruple perfin strike...Any questions or comments.

Robert

Robert,
Sounds like they might be legitimate, I certainly hope so.

Did you get a 3D scanner?

No, I used Gwyddion for 3D effect.

If you want to analyze and generate Z axis data you HAVE to use a 3D scanner. I know we have discussed this multiple times, why do you keep posting this misinformation? It is misleading to other folks. No software in the world can magically take 2D images and generate 3D data.
