Hi Rick,
A veritable feast of information,
the candles shall be burning late into the evening,
as I commit this stuff to the Album.
Thank you.

These came in a Glassine marked "Poland 1922-1923 Forgeries"

Query
1. Do forgeries of this (Miner [union of Upper Silesia with Poland)]) exist?
2. If the mistake is between the 2 printings (Flat plate and rotary).......Do I....

a. Isolate all P12˝ and mount them as the thin paper Rotary print?

The Flat plate appears to have numerous Perf varieties, worth isolating?

At the moment all issues I seem to have are constantly .003" thick

Any information on these welcomed.

Rod, the only forgery I know of is of the 1m, which was made from a cut-out of a Pan-Slavic Exhibition illustrated cover.

Classical Stamps Thank you. Interesting.
I checked Stampforgeries dot com, nothing there.

I also scanned and toggled a number of values,
I could see no immediate difference.

I think the original collector was using Scott, and presumed they were forgeries.

The low values were nowhere near the then postal rates, so there is a suggestion, these were made for collectors.

Nope, these were issued exclusively for use in the Polish section of Upper Silesia (the part that Poland received after the plebiscite of 1921) where the currency was different. Simples!

The stamps were issued in June 1922 & withdrawn from circulation on 30 April 1923

Given the amount of mint material available on the market you could be excused for thinking these were aimed at the philatelic market, in fact most used stamps are CTO. I have a couple of CTO lower value sheets & if I could find these in Australia then there must be masses of this stuff around. Genuinely used commercial covers are another thing, expect to pay $300-$400 for a grubby one.

The Museum of Posts & Telecommunications in Wroclaw, Poland has published a book illustrating some of the stamp essays they have in their archives. Here's the essay of the miner from the series, pen & ink, 109x132mm

There are three types of paper, white smooth thin & white smooth medium & for the rotary printed mark values, white smooth very thin
Here's the papers page from "Polskie Znaki Pocztowe" 1960

And if you're really into it, the perfs..

Hello Rein,
As I understand it, a US term, for a stamp that displays two values.
One value indicates the tax paid to convey an article postally,
and the other value goes towards a designated Charity.

Hence 5 Zloty + 40 grozy, would indicate 40 grozy goes to a Charity, say Red Cross etc.

Semi="half" or "partially" So partially Postal partially Charitable.

Hope that explains, I'll stand corrected.
------------------------------------

"Askphil"
Semi-official: stamps used in connection with private postal use, but having official sanction such as the railway letter
fee stamps of England, or the U.S. Buffalo Balloon covers where their delivery started in a private balloon and taken to
the nearest post office where it continued on to its destination courtesy of the U.S. Mails.
Semi-official air mail stamp: private firms operating air services carried mail and some issued their own private labels
to indicate payment of the air mail fee; in addition to the normal postage as indicated on government postage stamp.

Semipostal: an additional monetary value, called a surcharge, devoted to a specific non-postal purpose such as the Red
Cross; the surcharge has no postal validity and is usually separated from the official postal value with a "+" sign, aka Charity Stamps.
