Here is the lithographed facsimile that turned up a few years ago from a European ebay seller, which we conjecture was used on American products shipped for sale in Europe.

Would that same supposition be applied to the item shown at the top in the image below? Note that it mimics the first issue rather than the second issue proprietary stamps, so perhaps it's an earlier version.

I had always been told that these were school and college practice stamps. That always bothered me though, as schools never applied these stamps to articles (at least they shouldn't have). Documents and checks, yes, but not boxes or bottles. Foreign usage makes more sense.

The problem is that we don't actually KNOW what the schools might have done with regard to proprietaries. You are right that they should not have, but...................?
