What is the most recent intelligence on the history of the R68c plate? How many times was it reentered, if at all? What was the proximate reason for the need to do recutting? How many positions were recut? Anyway, here is a stamp that I just received which has recutting on the left edge of the UL shield which appears to be the usual location for these recuts on the R68c.

This appears to be a repair from some damage to that corner, it includes the bit of frameline as well.

Are you saying that the stamp has been repaired?

Although the top perfs do look a bit funky, but I think that is natural.

There are at least six? positions similarly recut on the plate. I have also bought a couple R75c that appear to have some recutting in the UR shield.

If it shows up on the imperfs that would argue for a possible issue with the transfer roll, and a repair made then or just that one position was engraved this way.

Recuts show up on 7 positions (22 through 28). They are evident on the imperfs from the beginning and appear to be an effort to correct weak impressions of the top left corner. R75 appears to have a number of recut frame lines but I've not seen a published list of positions.

Thank you very much! I thought seven positions was a possibility because six are illustrated in the Shift Hunter Letters and none of them seem to match mine. The existence of a seventh is mentioned but not illustrated, I figured the one I show may be that seventh one. I get the feeling you probably know what position my stamp is but I am content to figure it out by and by :) That is the fun part!

The recuts were written up in TAR and Dick Celler did the drawings both early and late state.

It appears I would have to join the ARA to gain access to all of TAR articles. I may do that. Apparently there is a gap in online availability from 1983-2012? I am also wondering if there has ever been an index of articles published? As it is right now, I have absolutely no way to figure out what issue of the TAR I would need to read for these R68 recuts.

Yes, there is an index that has been published, but I don't remember how old the most recent one is.

There is an index to TAR but it was last updated in 1997. A .pdf of the index is on the ARA webpage under the publications/ARA publications tab
