Custom US Postage Stamps

I want to know how he got the cops in Albuquerque (Bernalillo County) to arrest him instead of shooting him.

It does seem like a whole lot of work to go through to create these stamps which is probably why they're not very common. I've seen them on some mail, but I'd guess people who make personalized stamps will likely do it once or twice, but not again -- or at least not often. It's also a bit of a gimmick since it doesn't produce very good looking stamps (No offense to anyone pictured!). So I'm not quite sure the appeal of this. I'm not even sure why the USPS permits these sort of stamps. They can't be making much, if any, money off this, can they? I mean, if people need stamps and there are no personalized stamps, wouldn't they have to buy their stamps from the postal service, anyway? So, other than being kind of cute, I really don't get it.

I know the founder of Stamps.com, by the way, and he made a ton of money off his idea some years ago but has since sold the company. It was originally thought of as a simplified way for businesses to create their own postage a little like the old postage meters companies still use, but with some kind of company logo or photograph. It works well for that use -- well enough for him to make a great deal of money off the idea.

Given the premium one pays to have these stamps produced I wonder how they figured a business would want to pay extra for postage especially it they could buy oldeeer mint US stamps at a discount? Must be the advertising value?
