Or it had already failed certification and that fact wasn't being disclosed.

Simple answer would be ,do your own research and get all the information into your own files and then buy a few fakes that come with certificates . At that point your the expert.

It has always been a wonder to me that -What do the experts who certify stamps do that I can't learn ? Take the time to learn all the forgeries and create your own records .


Today I was working on Uruguay "Oxcart" issues and building my own reference points on these airmails . Catalogs make reference to forgeries exist but now I can walk someone thru a scanned copy to tell if it is real or not .The point being make yourself knowledgeable before you buy .
