Maybe I worded the original post wrong or gave the impression incorrectly that I believed the stamp was possible for a cert; I knew it wasn't and was looking to see what everyone else thought.

If that irritated some viewers, my apologies.

What I don't appreciate is the response that all my posts will not be taken seriously because of this. You want serious posts, take a look at the work I've done with the 1934 National Parks Series thread I've been posting now for almost two months. That is the kind of post I normally do.

With all the recent posts about sellers asking ridiculous prices for Scott 300's with a guideline, I never expected that kind of response for this post.

I may not have thousands of posts on here, but I'm not a novice to philately. I've been actively collecting and studying U.S. stamps for fifty years. I'm a long term member of many of the philatelic societies and very active in my local club.

I'll admit I'm quite upset by the post, but I'll get over it eventually. I hope that this gives everyone pause to consider what you post about someone else and the effects it may have. Imagine what that kind of post would do to someone just starting out.

Again, if this thread upset you, you have my apologies; that was never my intention.

Just to be clear, I was never upset.
I thought you may have been miffed and wanted to add my perspective, as peacemaker not pot stirrer.

Stampcrowe,

You're efforts as peacemaker are greatly appreciated.

I know that a lot of people look at these posts and never post anything to them. I thought it important enough to make a statement so that everyone might stop and think a bit about what they do post and the effect it might have on others, as well as their reputation on this forum and elsewhere.

Hopefully, this time I've hit the mark. I'm not interested in anything which could hurt the hobby, the members of this forum or any other collectors.

If this causes one person to think before they respond, I'll consider it a positive result.

Thanks for keeping the peace.

Looking at just photons online always makes the interpretation of forum posts iffy, to say the least. Nonetheless, the title and first post wording is pretty disingenuous to me.

The stamp is an obvious fake... all of the cut perfs are clearly
visible along the top edge...

Bumping this topic to address a similar offering. A dealer is offering item 133 shown here in a mail bid sale as a used 315. I contend it is a trimmed perfed stamp based on the side margins and cannot get a cert. Opinions? I'll identify the dealer after a few views are posted.

It would never get a cert with those margins Chris. The dealer is probably counting on the top of the side margins to convince or perhaps the top and bottom margins but anyway that you cut it the stamp will not pass muster.

Thanks for the confirms. Dealer is Alan Miller. I'm writing to him to request he decline all bids and withdraw the lot.

On something like this, can you check the ink from the cancel on the edge of the stamp to see it if it trimmed? Wouldn't there be some ink on the edge if it were imperforate on the envelope and be totally clean if trimmed after it went through the mail? Even if so, that would not preclude a perforated and canceled stamp being trimmed.

No way to check, all I have is a printed auction catalog. Stamp is a couple thousand miles away and dealer is not likely to do this check.

People will trim 304's and THEN "cancel" them. People will "paint" ink onto an edge. There are good reasons why this stamp needs minimum dimensions. I always ask myself when tempted by these types of things why it has not been certified.
