I think the
ebay seller ratings are emblematic of today's "everyone gets a trophy" society. When the star ratings were introduced a 4-star rating was "satisfied" and 5-stars was "very satisfied" - it looks like now there are just stars without any adjectival explanation. I always leave 5 stars for a satisfactory transaction, but I can understand why someone would leave 4 stars (or satisfied) for something that was properly described. Just like schools used to give students a letter grade of B (or even C) for satisfactory performance. But then I am old-fashioned and expect a high-school to have a single valedictorian rather than 178 valedictorians (because picking just one would create unhealthy competition) as our local high-school honored last year.
