Yes, thats correct and it goes to show Isabel s popularity down here. Now René, please remember you can't explain the 'why' she is popular, as it's maximum one prize per forum member... |

During her 1st regency (filling in for her father Emperor Pedro II), Princess Isabella signed into law the Law of Free Birth in 1871. I believe that would be a popular legacy still in Brazil today. |

22crows does it - congratulations! Check your mailbox Contest #1 ended. I want to add that additionally, during Isabel's third regency in 1888, she signed the 'Golden Law' that resulted in finally ending the slavery in Brazil. She was given a Golden Rose by Pope Leo XIII for her actions. Ironically her popular action contributed to the fall of the monarchy, as many of the powerful plantation owners then ended their support. . To avoid confusion: Contest #3 still open Contest #1 & #2 closed |

Nice try, CookIslands specialized 1, but I'm afraid it's not the correct answer... |

To avoid confusion, I will make separate posts for each remaining give-away. This thread is kept open for give-away #6 only, because an answer attempt has already been done on that particular contest. The other two open and un-answered contests at present time, contest #4 and #5, have been moved to separate posts. I hope this makes it easier to read and participate. Please note, I'm flying out of Brazil Sunday, so I am hoping to find winners for each of the 10 postcards by tomorrow Saturday so I can get it in the mailbox in due time. Thanks for participating Jon |

Thanks René, FYI - I just came back from the post office, and the postcards for the 3 winners so far is in the mail. I went there so I could personally attempt making nice SOTN postmarks I was allowed to use the hammer, but unfortunately the rubber stamp was so worn-out and the ink of such poor quality it was impossible to get clean crisp postmarks. Not like in the old days, when one could get razorsharp postmarks in high quality ink....maybe you don't mind, at least I tried. (Let's hope they don't run the cards through the automatic cancelling machine as well, the clerk promised not to!) |

Remember the good old ink......my dad had a Newpaper-Printing office-store but he never got to printing stamps ! Good luck with this fun questionnaire (10) - just hope the readers "read" and not just look for a "gold" prize - geography and history....... btw it will be fun to receive a Postcard from Brazil - my dad used to collect any postcard |
