Quote: Rod... and members, could inquire about colour variations easily distinguished on your NSW 2d blues..please. When the 2d was issued in 1897 there were three colours, deep dull blue, cobalt blue and ultramarine. These stamps have the SG 40 Wmk. The cobalt blue was issued on chalk surfaced paper in 1899. Same Wmk as above. If you rest the stamp on your top lip and it feels cool then it's a good bet the stamp is chalk surfaced. You'll notice the difference if you compare a known non chalky! The cobalt blue was again issued in 1902 with SG Wmk. 65. The gap between the crown and NSW on Wmk 65 is 1mm as opposed to 2mm in Wmk 40. In 1905 the crown over A Wmk was used (SG Wmk 68) - the 2d appears in deep ultramarine and milky blue. In 1907 the crown over double lined A Wmk was used (SG Wmk w11) - the 2d is in cobalt blue for this issue. This should help sort these issues out for anyone so inclined |

There is an anomaly with numeral 463 Upper Run (present day Hampton). Freeman states the office was opened on 1 January 1867 and closed on 31 October 1868. The numeral is rated RRRRR. Freeman states the numeral is recorded on a "2d DLR Wmk Crown NSW.
This stamp wasn't issued until November 1871, leading me to think that numeral 463 was reallocated, and that the rarity rating should be NNR. |

Here are 3, that I pulled out, with legible numbers that I don't believe have been shown here yet. 72, 134 and (I think) 138. |

FDS, your 201 is Burwood, not Rockhampton.
Nice strikes Spain_1850, Wee Waa, Manilla and what looks like 1381 of Euriowie. |

Quote: FDS, your 201 is Burwood, not Rockhampton. Thanks for bringing this mistake to my attention Bobby De La Rue, Rockhampton being the earlier use of 201. Unfortunately I can't edit the Ebay listing at this stage but I have contacted the current bidder to let them know of my error. I will contact a moderator to see if they can change it on my post above, too. |

Thanks for the confirmation on the Tooleybuc Cancel. I agree it's a beautiful strike.
I was thinking it was too good to be true. |
