I dabble in this area and from that limited perspective I think the OP got a decent deal. We cannot see any defects, etc in a video but from a quick run through of the video they all look unused, full sets. JMO.

At an estimate of 8,000-10,000 UKP, let's assume that they opened it at 6,000 UKP. If you purchased it at that price, you then add 20% buyer's premium plus 3% fee for online bidding. If in the EU, add another 20% VAT on the buyer's premium plus 5% tax on the hammer price.

Assuming a U.S. buyer, you're looking at 7,380 UKP (before shipping and assuming you don't pay by credit card, which is an additional fee), and after currency conversion at today's rate you're at $10,484.40 which works out to $419.38 per stamp.

And this all assumes that they offered it at 2,000 UKP below estimate... nice multiple but not exactly cheap.

GeoffHa --
Actually I don't even collect mint stamps, my Gandhi stamp just turned up in a mixed lot -- I hadn't even noticed it before I bought the lot!
I knew it was worth decent money, so then I did a lot of ebay googling to get some idea of how much.
Just struck me as a good example of how fast catalogue values can change.
But its interesting to see no buyer for that sheet of 25.

Well done! I don't consider the Gandhi set very well designed, compared to other Indian issues of the period. And would a buyer wish to keep the block of twenty-five? Perhaps likely to be broken into blocks of four and singles. So a pretty high price, all in all.
