Very interesting and contemplative thread. Times sure are a changin' as I can attest that many of my peers are definitely not interested in stamps.

It is not for everyone. It is a quiet, thoughtful reflective activity that requires patience, study and research. Todays world appears to be filled with instant gratification desires.

Stamp collecting may very well be a lifetime or even generational pursuit.

Speaking for myself, I was introduced to the hobby in my early childhood through my grandfather who also collected coins, I wound up losing interest after he passed from around my pre-teen and teenage years until about a few years ago.

I am now thirty-four. Not quite a kid but maybe some of my elders here in the community would consider me a youngster. There is great enjoyment for me through collecting world and US but lately I have been devoting a large amount of funds and it is becoming a collection of assets as opposed to a pure hobby. Maybe to get back to the joy of collecting I need to focus on making the albums and restrain from further acquisitions.

My granddaughter, age 12, collects topicals and has been collecting for several years. Our local Club promotes collecting to young collectors and the Boy Scouts every year at its annual show with free stamps and a Youth Table. There are always kids picking through the box of "free" stamps on Saturday so the answer is "YES"...I am happy to report the hobby is not dead. However, like anything, the hobby is changing and the hobby has to quickly transition to "social media" or it maybe dead.
