Anton Pieck (1895–1987) was a Dutch painter, artist and illustrator. His works are noted for their nostalgic or fairy tale-like character and are widely popular, appearing regularly on cards and calendars. And just for the fun of his marvelous sense of detail, two scans of other market scenes I found on the web. (so-called personal stamps, 2013)

Lovely.
Repaired umbrella.
I recall before Television, hunched around the radio, listening to "Hop Harrigan"
My mother on the sofa, darning my Father's socks.

I think the elastic sided boot is out of era.

That may be Mr. Pieck in the second painting, blue suit and Painter's easel on the back............

The Viktualienmarkt of Munich is not only a place to get any fruit or vegetable you might like, it is also just great fun to view all the displays. stamp of 2003. Did you catch that the statue at the fountain (Karl Valentin) is carrying an umbrella? Even the Maibaum has a figure with an umbrella!

Hi Rod, Indeed, it might be the artist! Did you spy the tea pot on the stove above the boot? K.

I did indeed, Kris.

I had to Google the Bahamas straw market, I was thinking Rafia, I could not understand "straw" ? One cannot weave that.
Turns out the underside of Palm genus,

I recall my sister having a straw basket, it "creaked" when you put heavy stuff inside it.

A drone's view of the big market place Dolac in Zagreb, Croatia. Unusual to see so many umbrellas of the same design and color! Town Hall in the background. stamp of 2017

Hi Rod, Raffia fibers may indeed make up much of the raw material for those 'straw' baskets, but in Europe real straw is often used to make lovely decorative things that won't be bent or the straw must be supported by thin wire. K.

The towers of the town hall and the cathedral dominate the large market place of Saint Truiden in Belgium. The tower at the left belonged to the abbey, which was almost completely destroyed in the fire of 1975. Market stalls for all kinds of products line the huge open space, stamp of 1975.

Hi Rod, But the 'hard' work is fun work - a stamp a day keeps the doldrums away. K.
