Birds are one of the most common motifs featured on postage stamps worldwide. Many philatelists collect them—drawn to their elegance, their flight, and their stunning colors. But there's one thing stamps can't capture. Their song. In this video, you'll not only see Slovenian birds featured on beautiful postage stamps… You'll hear them too.
Just acquired this piece today (from ebay... where I rarely find anything that I need anymore). First day cover for Monaco #C41-C44a (perf 11). I've seen some nicer illustrated FDC's for this issue, but this is the first I was able to get ahold of.
I also find the destination... Senegal... rather unusual for an FDC of this type (showing also the back of the cover for the postmark).
I was sharing some French Guiana bird proofs earlier in this thread... I didn't get a chance to post them all but just got a couple of new ones for my collection that I wanted to show off.
(It took several weeks, by the way, to get these shipped from France with the current restrictions. )
In order Scott #206 trial color die proof in rose red, #205 deluxe proof, and #C18 trial color die proof in violet.
French Oceanic Settlements #C17 featuring a Wandering Albatross (Diomedea exulans) over a Mo'orea landscape. Designed and engraved by Pierre Gandon. The base stamp, two trial color die proofs (in green and violet) and a deluxe proof.
I love the detail on this stamp. Note the guy 'hidden' in the trees...
Croatia Croatian Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO) June 5, 2025 Set of two, one stamp introduces falconry, the ancient art of training birds of prey to hunt wild game in their natural habitat.
Republic of China (Taiwan) Conservation of Birds August 28, 2024 The stamp set features Falco tinnunculus, Accipiter virgatus, Circus melanoleucos , Ictinaetus malayensis.
Belgium 40 Years of Buzin's Birds October 20, 2025 The minisheet honors André Buzin (b. 1946), a Belgian artist known for his Bird definitive stamp series since 1985.
Netherlands Experience Nature - Birds of Sint Eustatius January 2, 2025 The stamp set features merlin, laughing gull, indigo bunting, lesser Antillean bullfinch, semipalmated plover, green heron, purple-throated carib, royal tern, American oystercatcher, and northern parula.
Deluxe proof for France Scott #C22 (Yvert & Tellier #PA 20). The Ile de la Cité, Paris, featuring a European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus). I posted a signed artist's die proof for this issue (in this thread) on 8/28/25.
(Incidentally, La Poste is still not accepting packages, regardless of contents. I had this shipped to me via DHL, which was pricey, but it arrived in the U.S. from France quickly and safely (5 days from when it was shipped)).
For any interested birders, note that recently the Herring Gull was split into two species: The European Herring Gull seen here (retaining the argentatus specific epithet) and, in North America, the American Herring Gull (now classified as Larus smithsonianus). Both types used to be called argentatus.
Hello all! Its been awhile since I last posted in this topic. With that said, I'd like to ask for some help on some birds stamps I'm trying to find. I'm looking for a pic of a birds set that I'm interested in. I'm not asking to buy anything, but I was hoping someone has a pic that I can reference.
The stamps in question are - Netherlands 2011 Personalized Birds set of 74. I believe the single Scott reference is 1385.
I don't know much about this series, but I saw a few of them, and it has me intrigued.
I'm wondering if someone can take a single pic of this set, and post it, for reference. I'm having difficulty finding this online.
