Need Help With Yemen Postal History

Angore, I really hope this isn't true about Gerben. His site is (was) fantastic, he helped me a lot and we shared much information. I wondered why he had been quiet for a while. Anyone have any more information?

It's not a substitute for the very well done flow charts, but Linn's November, 2017 issue had a good feature on South Arabia. For some reason, I cannot figure out how to log on to Linn's website to view the issue now but I remember thinking the piece was informative.

NIGELC uses the name ....KATHIRI STATE IN HADHRAMAUT . Then ROB ROY posts he never seen a stamp from that place.

I believe the state used a different name on its stamps . Here is my page and notice the spelling on the page and the stamps as QU'AITI STATE in HADHRAMAUT .

In his initial post Rob Roy posted that he had stamps from various places including the Kathiri State in Hadhramaut.

Qu'aiti and Kathiri were separate sultanates in the Hadhramaut region.

How I have my current Albums

Sorry for being unclear. In StampWorld, under Kathiri state in Hadhrmaut, none of the stamps are inscribed with it.
In my own collection, I didn't see such stamp because I'm rather a small collector.
So there are such stamps, and they fit somewhere in the sequence. I checked my simplified Scott and S&G and couldn't find them.
Maybe they are considered Cinderrelas.

Genuine postage may be doubtful.

If you look at my computer list, the country name "Kathiri State of Seiyun"
was renamed in 1967 to "Kathiri State of Hadhramaut"

These are listed in Michel Catalogue (Gulf States) A well used, and appreciated, free gift from "Postmaster GS"

Hi Rod,

I'm a big fan of The Stamp Atlas but this map has a few problems:

- The Kathiri State arrow is pointing at the wrong town, well outside Kathiri territory. Seiyun is shown on the map posted by perf12.

- I think labelling the town of Mukalla as "Qu'aiti" is confusing (although Mukalla was its capital).

- Quishn is misspelt "Quishu" on the map and in the text.

- It's a pity there isn't a location marked for Upper Yafa which is mentioned on a later page.

Yes, it seems it should be, about 300km East.
I still think "Seiyun" would be correct if it was.
(On the western border of Kathiri) (Atlas also spelt incorrectly)

Any issue from the genuine state of Upper Yafa
dated after 1967 is bogus,

It was part of the South Arabian Protectorate and
absorbed (1967) into the PR of Southern Yemen
(later became the PDRY). In 1990 North and
South Yemen merged to form the Republic of
Yemen.

Genuine postal service was short lived in 1967,
but the first Upper Yafa issue did see postal use
for a few months.

I have a genuine commercial cover buried somewhere
in my hoard of covers.

On September 30, 1967, the Sultanate of Upper Yafa,
the only western state under the Protectorate not to
accept integration in the Federation, issued a series
of 10 stamps from 5 to 500 fils (airmail from 75 to
500 fils) depicting a map of the state and its flag,
as well as the state's coat-of-arms.

At the same time, the forces of the National Liberation
Front had succeeded in pushing aside the Liberation
Front of Occupied South Yemen, taking control of the
small sultanate of 600 square miles.

With American assistance, the Sultanate later (1967)
issued 12 thematic series representing a total of
72 stamps. The large majority of these thematic
vignettes were never used for valid postage.

Many years later, (1998-2005) a private individual in N.Z.
took the name Sultanate of Upper Yafa to create a
cinderella state with new "stamps". The currency was
in Omani Riyals.
