The US Tagged stamp database community project is quickly closing in 1000 tagged stamp images loaded! Big thanks to Mark Stockburger and Al Gore for their dedication and diligence in making this the largest, most complete online resource for US Tagged stamps.

While I understand the need to limit verbosity in such a large volume as the U.S. Scott Specialized Catalogue, I have often decried the fact that whenever tagging does not appear germane to a stamp's identification, Scott omits any description of said tagging other than its existence (or lack thereof). For such stamps, no mention of the type of tagging (overall, block, etc.) is given. I want to thank the gentlemen involved in this Herculean task. You are providing collectors such as myself a useful future resource. As a collector of U.S. tagging varieties, I laud your efforts!

Don has been a huge help so I would like to recognize him as well. Right now there are about 1500 images. I have many EFO's prepped to load but want to focus on normal views first.

91stang any tagging errors would be great to add to the DB. I have been including even tagging omitted pictures for completeness.

Shortly before seeing this topic, I just happened to be checking a couple of the transportation issues. Two of them that I was checking were Scott # 2133 / 2133a (Pushcart).
So I decided to see what the Stamp Smarter site said about #2133. The "special features" column says Plt #1 is printed in luminescent ink that glows orangish under uv. I have Plt #1 but it does not have luminescent ink.

91stang,
Please check your email.

The modern US tagged stamps remind me a bit of the 1908-1922 Washington/Franklin coils when they were first issued (not widely recognized as collectable-worthy varieties).

Hi quigngt - I got this information from another site but I would have to dig around to find the information source again. I don't have PNC's for 2133/2133a. It may be the information was switched around for PNC 1 versus 2 or PNC 1 comes in both types. Here is a LW UV picture with both types of ink. LW pictures are much harder to take because camera image sensors have built in UV filters. You can see from the picture the top ones glow orange and the bottom doesn't. If anyone has better information on which PNC's have which please post it and I will update the information.

mstocky2 Thanks for the reply. I am away for several days so when I get home I'll compare mine samples together in the same photo like yours. I only checked one of three plate #1 stamps that I have. I'll do a more extensive comparison of regular and precancel to have a larger number of stamps to work with to come to a better informed decision.

mstocky2, I have some info for you. Scott 2133 is a basic stamp, unprecancelled and hence tagged. The tagging is block tagging and will show up on short wave UV. Two plate numbers exist, plate 1 and plate 2.
2133a is the untagged and precancelled version. It should not do anything under swUV. Exist from both plate 1 and plate 2.
Some rolls of 2133 were printed using luminescent ink. These are only from plate 1 printings, but not all stamps from this plate are luminescent.
A normal plate 1 strip goes for about $1.50 but a strip with luminescent ink catalogs for $12.00. I hope this helps?

Peter

Peter - I was missing P#1 without luminescent ink so that has been added to DB. P#2 wasn't visible but is now.
