Perhaps heat can serve to simulate the passage of time and give us an idea of how the adhesive will age. I'm thinking of leaving a stamp on the top of a lit incandescent light bulb for a day? a week? a month? Another way might be to bake a stamp on a cookie sheet under low heat. |

If you put your finger on the top of a lit bulb it will get burned, hardly the same as normal aging. |

Time is an important factor here. It takes time for self-adhesive material to change (stabilize) and do its damage. Different self adhesives seem to change at different rates. I am sure there are other factors involved, such as heat.
With bookbinding and page repair, I am constantly removing these materials (whenever possible) from paper. |

Perhaps they newer adhesives will last a couple of decades or more. How many collectors will be around then to check on Their condition is another question all together. |

Great link, philatomic. All collectors of contemporary stamps should read it.
Last sentence from the Salm Report states, "The most important point to remember is to remove the adhesive as quickly as possible, because the longer it sets up, the tighter it clings to the stamp." |

I wonder if self adhesives will even be viable for sale as face decades from now or will the adhesive degrade, dry out, damage the stamp in other ways. |

Stamps that won't age? USPS will loose it's 'extra money' of stamps that were bought by collectors, with no intention of use as postage. The Postal Rates will Go Up Fast! Ashton Potter & BankNote Corp will go out of business! Be careful with your suggestions. ( snicker )
