I've never seen a Scott catalogue to compare, I'm afraid. I can't imagine that many people in Europe use them, unless they collect US stamps. I've picked up most of my SG catalogues cheap in the "literature" sections of auctions. |

Quote: Mostly because I started to run out of stamps much beyond 1950 Spain what are your limits for early and late materials? Appears to me you collect from Scott #1 onward; how recent is your newest material? |

Spain, I've been following your thread. I'm very impressed with the quality of your pages and stamps! Do you plan to do this level of detail for every stamp issuing country, major stamp issuing countries or a select few?? In any case, it's quite an undertaking! Dan |

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example. I collect for enjoyment, not investment. APS Member #223433 Postmark Collectors Club Member #6333 Meter Stamp Society Member #1409 |

Originally I didn't have any late limits and certainly no early limits. I wanted everything. Now, having been at it for about a year and a half, I'm finding I'm not really caring for many of the self adhesives, so I may make that as a tentative cutoff "period".
Generally, however, my "cutoff" date for any one country will be determined by what I actually have at the time.
For Example, the previous project of Chile...The bulk of what I had stopped in the early 1950's, so I printed pages to accommodate those. Then, what few I had left from later decades, I printed the individual pages that were relevant to those stamps. Now, after doing a rough sort of the packet of 675 I just got, I'm finding quite a bit from the 1960's to about 1990. So now I can print the rest of the pages, for those decades, and push my previous cutoff into the 1980's and print other individual pages for even later material. |

Spain, I like your layouts ... the Egypt special delivery is a good example. Not set up as a square block of 4 stamps but the lower two are slightly closer together ... gives it some interesting visual variation. |

Danstamps - thank you very much! At a basic level the answer would be yes, my intention is to treat every stamp issuing entity this way......But...... it's probably not going to be feasible in some areas. There are many areas I'm sure I won't be able to afford. As well, there are many areas I presently don't have enough material, or references, to be able to stick to my plan.
Of course, the more material I have for a given area (what many people refer to as "duplicates") allows me to create extensions to the basic album and pages.
Then there is time. Will I have enough time, before I leave this world, to be able to st least get everything I already have mounted? I don't know. I do know that right now I'm having more fun doing this than I have in a long time. When I specialized in Spain, there would always be lulls in the action when I was not finding any new or exciting items to ads to the collection, that I could afford. Now, every day is something different.

canyoneer - Actually, I can't take credit for that layout. That's a straight up Steiner page. The reason, I'm assuming, the layout is the way it is, may be because the top 2 stamps are listed, in Scott, individually, while the bottom 2 are listed as a "set". Although if I were making the same page, and following Scott, I'd probably have made the layout very similar. |

I noticed your pics have a bluish tint and a little dark. I downloaded an image and looked a little better.
The areas outside of the images in the browser window controlled forum software are much whiter

angore - I see that now that you mention it. I never really noticed it before. I also notice that the forum posts alternate, post to post, between white and a really light gray. Looking back at some of my posts, you are right the ones with pictures against a white background a darker, and slightly bluish, while the pictures against the light gray forum post are actually lighter.
When I scan pages I don't usually do any altering, just scan, crop and save. I may do some experimenting. Also, I haven't tried and scans with the laser printer yet (it's downstairs and my computer is upstairs), but am curious to see how they compare. |

Update: The Egypt album is coming to a close. I've actually been working on the Chile packet I rec'd not long ago, at the same time. Egypt kind of peters out in the early 1960's, so not very many complete, or semi-complete pages after that. But I will post some of them soon. I will also be looking for an all-different selection for Egypt at some point in time, to help bolster the later years.
The Chile selection is coming along nicely as well. I will also post some pictures of some pages for that.
I'm also readying my next project, which will be French Morocco. I had someone ask me if the larger countries were what I was focusing on, so this is why I decided this area. I'm not sure how comprehensive it will be, but it has to be done. |

OK, I'm finally done with the base Egypt album. I actually had to split it up into 2 1" binders. One for regular issues and the other for back of book and Palestine issues. Here are some of the more populated pages form the 1950's-1980's. Admittedly, there aren't that many. Things really started to take a nose dive in the early 1960's, so I only printed complete pages to about 1971. After 1971 I just printed individual pages that I could put a stamp on. I will most probably be on the lookout for a decent sized "all-different" lot of Egypt to fill holes. Here are my totals for this country: Egypt +BOB: 639 Palestine: 74 Total mounted: 713 Which brings our new overall total to:.......18981 I thought I had these 2 sets complete, but I guess not....Oh well! Here are a few stamps that caught my eye, that I thought were pretty neat looking. |

I like your Egypt collection! I particularly like the Anubis (dog) stamp, whenever I see one I pick it up. I also collect Anubis statues etc. My dog, a Cirneco dell'Etna, is a dead ringer for one. |
