Do You Think This USA #293 Is Reperfed?

I saw this, and instantly fell in love with it. Now that I am back down to Earth, what's wrong with it?? I am throwing this out to the forum: How many sides are reperfed?? And... how sure are you of that?

Bottom perfs look funky to me.

Agree with Don. The bottom looks to be reperfed.

I was thinking bottom and left (non-round holes), and possibly the top (they don't seem to make a straight line from left to right, although this might be mind playing tricks on me), too. Then I was thinking, "How big must this have been BEFORE the reperfer got to it??" Anyway, I'm going to walk away from this.

Send it in to get certified and graded. Let them decide.

Jaxom, this stamp is currently up for auction. It is not mine. Scan is from the 'catalog'. I've bought stamps in the past, at auction, sent them in for a cert, had the cert come back bad, and the auction house refuse to refund my costs in full. As far as I am concerned, if I buy a stamp based on a professional description, and it comes back as something else, it shouldn't cost me a cent. Not cost of the stamp, not 'buyer premium', not the cert fee (within the auction house's terms governing cert cost vs lot cost), and not even postage between all these entities. You screw up in your description, Mr. Auction House, and I have to pay????? NOT RIGHT!! I actually had an auction house tell me that they couldn't refund all my costs because... "we can't ask the consignor to bear all that cost"!!! I don't do business with them any more. Their ineptitude (in their description) cost me $$$, and they weren't willing to make it good. With all that in mind, if I see a stamp that I find myself attracted to, yet I see a probable fault upon further review, I have to weigh: is it worth it to me to risk losing $$$ and end up with exactly ZERO. To me, the chances of this stamp being reperfed is pretty high (and others seem to think so, too) - not worth the risk of losing even as little as $10-$20 in postage fees. If others had said, "It looks good", I probably would have risked it.

Definitely looks reperfed at least on the bottom. Holes don't line up. There is a "XF" $5 columbian (245) in the same sale that also looks reperfed to me. Not good.

If either of these stamps are real deal, sound with legit perfs, they would already have certificates.
They would sell easily with OG for over 15,000-20000 $ each. By logic there is something wrong with them

I don't like the bottom perfs on either stamp. This auction house has never struck me as one that really knows what it should; more of a bottom of the barrel auction house.

I will leave telling to the person that started the thread; however a bit of thinking and 5 minutes on SAN should be all you need to find them. It's all I needed.

I looked at almost every auction on SAN. I surely do understand why it is such a touchy topic to save everyone some time and stop the magical mystery tour. Geez.

Interestingly enough, neither stamp is described as "OG"....just remember the cardinal rule, "if a deal looks too good to be true, it usually is".
