Calling out a bad fraud-job on a stamp doesn't bother me. . .I guess what bothers me is the explicit praise of the fraudster's job in calling their work "expert." It's like saying that your house was "expertly robbed."

Except that there are "expert" regum jobs out there, just as there are terrible regum jobs out there. And it does make a difference in what a stamp might bring at auction.

Using the term expert is not praise. It is describing a condition. If you just used the generic term regum you are not providing a more useful verbal picture of what to expect. It is all much ado about nothing at the end of the day since you should not bid or purchase without seeing the item both back and front.

The regums I see for sale (and described as such) are priced as if they were no gum stamps. It sounds like the consensus is that regums sell for more than no-gum stamps. I suppose that is good to know and I may opt not to buy any regummed stamps since I may be paying a premium for the fake gum.

I cannot say that I have ever seen any regums at auction that were not catalog referenced or estimated at other than the no gum value.

Hi everyone;
The problem is the rules about gumming and hinges kinda ruining the stamp business.
It allows for fraud to exist .You can not stop people from cheating doing things that have lots of holes in it.
Here's and example ok, in a perfect world used stamps would not be taken off the envelope not possible right. Once you take it off soaking in water you loose some gum and its damaged how do you tell if it was gummed or not.Once you get the stamp off you were told hinges were the way to save your stamps so 90 percent of stamps lost most of there value. Great for the money people that wrote the books ,So what is the difference soaking your stamp from the envelope or soaking your stamp to get the hinges off both are damaged how much is questionable.
In this world of stamps , once money is involved you will see people using these loop holes to make money.
They need it to change the rules in order so you can tell if you have the real mCcoy or make it harder to cheat. There will always be cheaters life shows.
I don't have all the solutions and I may be wrong but if stamp people like fairness that's what you have to think about
That's just my option
Thanks Dan
